Spread your Protein out over the day like 3 8oz shakes a days and sf Popsicles and Jello also count as your liquid! broth also helps. Just try your hardest! It is so important! I was sleeved on 9/28/12 and the day before my 2 weeks I ended up in the hospital for dehydration and they discovered I had pancreatitis! I spent 3 days and just got home yesterday! It is no fun going back so please try hard! It is so important for your health and success! Good luck to you and if you need anything just ask! We are all here for you!

You might try having 2oz of shake every hour for as many hours you are awake. This worked really well for me during the firt 3 weeks post op. I also mixed it up a little by having the BA Protein Tomato Soup with lobster bouillon. It is high in protein and super yummy because it is like lobster bisque and perfectly fine during liquids stage. The 2 oz on a schedule ma it impossible to be short on daily protein intake. If you are awake on average 12 hours. That will give you 24 oz of protein which is equivalent to 3 8 oz normal servings. If you assume a normal 8 oz shake has 23 grams protein from powder and 8 grams from milk/ soy, then you average 93 grams protein a day. Right on target and the levee can handle the incremental 2oz serving sizes a lot better than a 8 oz serving size in the first few weeks post op.

I am 6 days post op and I can certainly relate . It is hard but through trial and error I realized that my new sleeve only tolerates certain types of Fluid. For example Vitamin Water feels like I'm drinking glass, propel - I can drink one bottle an hour, isopure-glass, any kind of broth - goes down great. Also my dr gave me ppi's and that helped my stomach not feel like it was being torn apart. I'm hoping I turn a corner at 10 days. Good luck to you too.

I got it from my hospital store where they sell food for bariatric patients, but you can probably find the Tomato Soup and other yummy Soups on mybariatricpantry.com or Amazon. I am surprised at how much sleeve friendly stuff I can find on Amazon and it is usually less expensive. If you are a prime member, it gets even better because you get your order in 2 days with free shipping.

There is a whey shake called Terra's Whey at Whole Foods that has 21 g before you mix it with milk. It isn't super thick so that helps. I drink so slowly that I only make 4 oz at a time. chicken bouillon and hot tea are helping me get in fluids. Hot is doing better than cold right now.

As of today I am 5 days post op. While I was in the hospital they gave me Oh Yeah shakes. They are so good and lots of Protein. If I can drink two of them and 2 twenty oz bottles of Water a day I am getting all of my protein and liquids. Also haveing somekind of creamy Soup helps me feel like I am eating. Be strong!

the first few days are soo hard to keep in the fluids! so don't stress out, just keep sipping every 15 minutes! :D

----> get ice chips and sugarfree popsicles, they are the best!!!

Best of luck to you!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
