Does This Happen To Anyone Else Or Am I The One Oddball?

Recommended Posts

Ok so I've searched the forums for this but can't find anything. I am 10 weeks post OP and EVERY time I eat my right shoulder hurts like its gas pains, but I thought gas pains could only be on the left side??

I've mentioned it to my doc and they dismissed it quickly, but I don't know what to do about it if anything can be done... Suggestions welcome.

If the pain gets any worst then go to urgent care or the ER. Some people report that they use Gas X strips and that helps with the pain. Better to be safe than sorry. It does sound like you have this covered by talking to your doc. :)

This far out wouldn't be gas pains. How long does it take for the pain to go away? Some people with gallstones get pain near the shoulder blades and eating can trigger an attack, but there would be other symptoms that are impossible to ignore, horrible pain in the abdomen, etc. I would follow up with the surgeons office if this doesn't go away or if it gets worse.

It's not constant... Just lasts about 20 min after I eat.. Always the same intensity.. Not terrible but it reminds me it's there. Not gallstones bc they removed my gallbladder when I had the surgery.

Thanks for the replies tho.. Any more are appreciated

Are you taking any type of acid blocker? Don't know if that could have anything to do with it. Just a thought

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
