They told me to get from 60-80 grams of Protein a day and to get about twice that many carbs ( 120-160) . That would be 240-320 calories of protein and about 480-640 calories of carbs. That works out to 720-960 calories. They also said to try to keep each meal to less than 5 grams of fat. That would be another 15-25 grams of fat per day. That works out to another 135-225 calories. The total would be 855-1185 calories a day.

I am 9 1/2 months out. I do 70 carbs a day. I still lose 2 pounds a week still. It's all in what kind, how much exercise you do and what your body wants. There is NO WAY I could do my hour a day workouts on 20 carbs. You will be able to feel what is right for your body.

Let me say though that I don't eat near that many carbs I don't think. They said not to worry too much about carbs, just don't eat a lot of white sugar or flour and eat your Protein first.

I work out an hour or more daily six days per week on 20-30 carbs. I did find that when I worked out for two or more hours I needed to add a bit extra. Also, my NUT told me that at maintenance I would be eating 100 or so carbs daily. It just goes to show the wide variation out there - in our bodies reaction and in what we are told by out NUTs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
