I am 6 days post op and I feel awful and lots of regret. I felt awesome when I left the hospital and after taking pain meds felt horrible. I've been to er twice for iv to rehydrate and today I'm trying to stay on top of my fluids. I have a gnawing feeling in my stomach which I assume is hunger. almost thinking this was not worth it at all. somebody tell me this all goes away and. I will have my life back.

Sometimes its harder for the first week or 2 but you will get through this & you will feel better :)Just keep sipping your Water all day, dehydration is not a good thing ! How is your food intake?

Sometimes pain meds can also make a person feel a bit down, too. Every journey has bumps. Keep drinking! ("m from RI to Scaredy Cat!)

Feeling in your stomach can be acid. Are you on a PPI?

I felt the same for the firs 10 days.Just sat with my earphones, watched cooking programs and wondered how did I finally manage to ruin my own life?

Rest, sip, try and distract yourself a little with tv or something else. Its ok to feel like this because it will pass.

Just "be" for a few more days.

And sip,sip,sip...that your job for now.

Hang in there,it will get better.

Please keep updating on how you are doing!

Redsoxgirl,

I have not been sleeved yet, but everything I have read says you will feel better soon! As a nurse I can tell you that you must stay hydrated!!! When you are dehydrated you will feel aweful and your thinking/emotions are off kilter. Sip Sip Sip! If you still feel so poorly on Monday call your surgeons office and get an appt with him/her.

I too am from MA

My nutritionist and nurse both told me that almost EVERYONE regrets the surgery for the first few weeks. It's not easy. But once the hard part is over they wonder why they had not done it sooner.

Try to hang in there......I bet in a few more weeks you'll forget the bad and be excited about the future!

That is funny....my nutritionist told me that almost everyone comes in for their first post-op visit saying..."oh my God, what have I done".... but within a few weeks everybody says they wish they would have done it sooner.

Have you tried either Prilosec or Prevacid to help with your stomach I felt like pain but was actually stomach acid you can try some Pepcid for a day or so until the other med kicks in buy the store brands it is cheaper

I am 2 1/2 months out so the memories of the post-op weeks are really fresh. I had a pretty rough time, too. I thought I had made a huge mistake, but now I am happy with my choice. It is hard. The hunger-like feeling for me was too much acid--an acid reducer made it stop. I couldn't get fluids in, either. I know they say to do sugar free everything, but a normal Popsicle really helped me. When you get to where it is allowed by your diet, you may want to try egg drop Soup. Those two things went down well and gave me some energy.

I didn't feel human again after the surgery for 6 weeks. I know most of us don't realize it going in, but it was a major surgery followed by a period of malnutrition. If you get through that without feeling run down and borderline depressed you are the exception, not the rule.

I am 10 weeks out now, and I feel good again. I can eat--feel satisfied--and I am losing. You will get here.

I was sleeved on 5/21, I regretted surgery the morning after, but that was only because of a lack of pain control. I had to take my reflux meds for 2 weeks after surgery and since then I have found that when I have that "hungry" feeling it is actually acid, not hunger. I get it every once in a while after I eat spicy foods now. It gets so much better! Hang in there and drink, drink, drink!

It does get better but I remember how I felt the first weeks after surgery. I didn't want to get dehydrated so I mixed G2 gatoraid with my Water and it helped so much. I never got dehydrated. Also, like others said, make sure you take an acid reducer. It will help too!! Take care and know it WILL be worth it! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
