Fiddleman 4,376 Posted November 9, 2012 @Fiddleman I am 3 months out and just started losing my hair. I was in tears. Dozens and dozens of strands at a time. Seems as if you are getting a ton of Protein. How are you getting all of that in a day? On a good day I can only scrape down 60grams. I can also only take in about 500-600 cal a day. I only eat Protein and eat about 25 ounces for each meal at 6 meals a day. That actually works out to be more than 125 oz a day, more like 150 oz a day. I have to say that all this protein costs quite a bit and my wife is constantly reminding me that I am eating more money post op then pre op. LOL! One thing to keep in mind is that 3 oz solid protein really helps with hunger for almost 3 hours at a time. At least that is the way it works for me.
Fiddleman 4,376 Posted November 9, 2012 Hair loss is starting up again post 4 months. Darn, and I thought it was quick and dirty around month 3 for 3 weeks. Oh well, part of the hair loss club again. I am actually not that concerned about hair loss, maybe because I'm a guy. I know it will come back again. .
RomanHEMPeror 14 Posted December 10, 2012 Thanks for the Biotin & black currant tip. I am 37 but don't have the hair loss in either side of my family. All men in my family have died with full heads of hair. But I did notice being able to see my scalp recently after a haircut and my wife even made a comment. So I'm hoping my Navajo blood kicks in and I get my hair back. Otherwise I'll be forced to shave my head like I had in my knucklehead days. The major drawback is the negative attention I get from police when I'm in one of my rides...
Carol Watts 67 Posted December 10, 2012 Garnier's "Fall Fight really helps. Mine stopped breaking so far. I am 9 weeks post op
NurseMom 15 Posted December 10, 2012 i have talked with a bunch of folks who are post op and for the most part, it's a mixed bag as far as i can tell...some have had BIG loss, others can barely see a difference! BUT, those who did lose all reassured me that it comes back...that's right, right???? i really hope so! because i sure don't want to be thin and healthy but bald! Rootman 1,101 Posted December 10, 2012 I've chimed in on a number of these hair loss threads. I do not hold to the various supplements that report to stem or cure Hair loss. I don't think that they work. Be that as it may, I would advise real caution if you take these, especially with the dosages that are being pushed. Taking so much of any kind of supplements could possibly lead to bad consequences. I know that it's a prescription but many people who took Propecia for hair loss really regret it : http://www.drugs.com/sfx/propecia-side-effects.html There are things that are WORSE than losing some of your hair. However, I just decided not to use anything and lost hair for about two months. It is not too bad, just a bit thinner now. It doesn't affect my mojo really. It will grow back. MoreganK 164 Posted December 11, 2012 I think that the men on this thread seem to handle the temporary hair loss a lot better than us females. I think for us it is pretty tramatic, not that it isn't for guys, just its easier for a bald man to blend in than it is a woman with bald Patches. That said, I am just now on the other side of the tramatic scary Hair loss, and I was FREAKING out for about 2 months. It hit me hard in month 4, and I had thin hair to begin with, so, it really got thin, scary thin, and I thought I would be wearing a wig for my wedding in April. However, I think a combination of things have worked now in my favor that helped. Timing... its going to happen, and usually around month 4 & 5 is the heavy hair loss. I took supplements, recommended by my doctor and through lots of reading. I take 3000 mg of Biotin, 1 silica tablet, 1 zinc tablet and my Multivitamins daily. I also try really hard to hit no less than 60 grams of protien, but aim for 80. I also make sure to stay hydrated. All of those things help your skin, hair, and nails to grow strong and healthy. And its not an instant fix, it is more like help for your new hair that starts growing in. I have new Hair growth happening, but my hair has always grown fast (thank goodness). I also tried Garnier Fight Fall shampoo... but everytime I used it felt I lost more hair, so I stopped using it, and took the advice of a hair care expert... I got a good organic, paraben free Shampoo and used it. I also made sure to massage my scalp really well. My hair is still thinner than it should be, but I can tell that new hair is already growing in, and am relieved. Just hang in there. 1 Catherine Shinn Habhab reacted to this
NurseMom 15 Posted December 11, 2012 thanks to the above poster...of ALL the things i could be worried about (and i'm a nurse, so the operative issues should scare me)...well, hair loss is the biggie. it's stupid, i know, but my whole life i've had great hair. when i was young and thinner it was really beautiful. as i've gotten older and bigger, i've cut it, but it's still really cute. the UP side to this- i have a bunch of cute short short cuts that i've always wanted to try, and now i CAN without worrying if my face looks too fat! 1 MoreganK reacted to this

As a guy, I have always liked women with long hair and love the fact that my wife has flowing long beautiful hair. She of course can decide to chop it off as it is her choice first and foremost, but I would not like it and it would take a long time for me to adjust to it being short. Just saying, the change from long to pixie would be pretty big for you and are you sure? I have always seen a women's long, flowing and beautiful hair as an asset. I guess do what is right for you and makes you feel the best.

Never ever regretted cutting it off and I've never felt my femininity has suffered because I have short hair. At worst, it's waiting six months for it to grow out... Plus - as I wait for the dreaded Hair loss, I'm not stressing. If it gets that bad I'll just shave it off (try to raise a bit of money for a charity foundation at the same time) and then I'll wait for the horrified reactions of my sisters. 1 MoreganK reacted to this
delta_girl 931 Posted December 13, 2012 Week 11 and I'm getting to join the hair loss club. When it started breaking about two weeks ago I just thought it was due to me using a straightening Iron every day. But tonight in the shower, as I was running the Shampoo through my hair, I was shedding like crazy and it just kept on coming out. It would be cool for someone to make an infographic time-line of post-op vsg.
maharet111 544 Posted December 13, 2012 If you think about what hair is..it is dead Protein. Now also with the life cycle of what you eat it shows up in your hair three to five months later. So your body undergoes a big shock with surgery and the first 2 to 4 weeks it is a struggle to maintain the Protein intake...sooo three to five months after surgery..Tada!!! Hair falls out. I have not been sleeved yet but my surgeon said what has worked with his patients is starting the Biotin and zinc supplements at the time of surgery so when Hair loss hits it is not as bad. I also have fine and thin hair..I plan to just shave it short and own the new me I know I know women obsess about our hair..but between having a new life and losing hair I know what I would choose 1 MoreganK reacted to this
Catherine Shinn Habhab 97 Posted December 13, 2012 all of you mention that your hair fall started 4-6 months post surgery....mine started almost immediately! now I'm worried that by month 6 I will be bald. I am taking a Biotin and Bepanthene injection, once a day for a month. these injections cost me about $100 for the whole dose, but i'm lucky that hubby's insurance covers it
