sirensiren 67 Posted October 15, 2012 I chose not to tell anyone but very close family. I knew my decision would be met with fear and concerns, and possibly arguments against the choice to have VSG. My recovery was extremely easy, and I went back to work in 4 days after surgery without problems (just gas pain). When coworkers saw my sipping broth, they assumed I was on a diet. I think who you tell has to only be trusted people.
Beebaby813 24 Posted October 15, 2012 I am taking it one milestone at a time. I have told only my brother and my husband outside of the medical community. I may tell a few close friends and my mom if ( praying) I get approved. For me I am uncomfortable lying or setting myself up to be forced to lie, I will tell the truth if asked and until then I will decide moment to moment what feels right. I don't think there is anything wrong with you keeping quiet, however you should never go to another country without an emergeny contact that knows where you are and will make sure you are safe. Also, you may need help afterward so at least someone close that can be that support for you might be important! We all need help sometimes!
nurseghana 167 Posted October 18, 2012 As having surgery is such an incredibly personal decision' date=' I have decided not to tell anyone. I'm single and have no children so its fairly easy for me to let friends and family think I'm just going on a little Mexican vacation. Is there anyone else here who has chosen not to share this with anyone?[/quote'] That's what I am doing too
Robbino 32 Posted October 18, 2012 In the begining I chose not to tell anyone I was having wls. I wanted to process my decision and get use to the idea before telling anyone else. Then my plan was to tell only family, for support, and incase something were to happen. There is always a risk factor when having surgery, and I thought it was a good idea because of traveling. I am also a single parent, and I wanted my older children to be aware of what I was doing, and the changes that would follow. My children were all for it. They were a little nervous, but I was able to put ghem at ease a little when I told them all the research I'd done. Big suprise to me, the rest of my family were not supportive at all and tried talking me out of it. It was mainly about going to Mexico to have the surgery. Then I asked my hairdresser what she thought about going to Mexico for surgery, because she had just recently been sleeved herself. She told me that she actually had her surgery in Mexico but didn't tell many people because she didn't want to hear the negativity. Then I tell my Chiropracter I'm having the surgery, and she says, "Great!" Then proceeded to tell me that she knew several that had gone to Mexico to have it done. By this point, I'm amazed. We live in a very small town in the south. I was really suprised how many people had gone to Mexico for the same procedure. Now I've told several close friends, who are excited for me and supportive of my decision. Almost everyone says they know someone else who's had wls done in Mexico! I'm glad I finally told the ones I did, because I really needed the support group. However, I've opted not to tell any more family.
