My job is giving out free flu shots on Monday but I not sure if I should get one. Monday will be exactly one week before my surgery and I am not sure if I can. Anyone have an answer?

My answer is:

Call your Surgeon.

There really shouldn't be an issue. But it would be safer for you to ask first.

I had one a couple of days ago. I get one every year, so my answer is yes. They will give you a fact sheet before you get the shot. Read it.

The vaccine is dead virus, so you won't get the flu. Some people may get a little sore/tired for a couple of days after, but no worse than a mild cold or a strenuous workout.

The flu shot does not have live virus' in them at all! You should not get sick. I would suggest you ask the surgeon but I don't see a problem with it either. :)

yeah check with your surgeon and make sure you ask them specifically about which you are getting because flu mist is a live virus.

That's a good point.

Yes, call the surgeon but the rest of us should get it prior to surgery. Can you imagine coughing alot after surgery?

I had the same question so I called my Doc today. The nurse checked and said that it was okay. I'm getting mine Monday and my surgery is the following Tuesday.

Thanks for all your help. I'll call the office on Monday just to be on the safe side.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
