Hi Y, I found the pain of surgery minimal. I never had surgery before and I expected more pain. It is very localized to the cuts, and some people have gas pain in shoulders and what-not but chewing gas x relieves that. There are 5 cuts. 4 of them are like puncture cuts, very small. 1 is about 2 inches. I did not have any stitches on the 4 cuts, just tape. And on the bigger one, just a couple stitches that are cut about 2 weeks later. I was also very scared, but very excited too. You should be excited too, what a great decision you've made. I had Dr. Cobourn. I cannot say enough about him. I Love Him!!!! He will put you at ease the minute you see him. Others on this site had their procedures done at TLBC and loved thier experience as well. Keep us posted!!!

Hi Yasmina,

I too am Canadian. Just to let you know, I got my insurance company to pay for the cost of the band (around $5000). It is considered a medical device and my company covered this. I am living in Quebec (but from Ontario) so it may be different... but it never hurts to try. The rest I covered.

I found the pain of the surgery a little more than I thought it would be... but certainly less than other medical procedures. I flew home (live in Northern- Arctic Quebec) 3 days post surgery.

It has been really worthwhile! My family (2 kids ages 4 and 7 and great hubby) have been so supportive. My little girl says I am less flatter now (she always said flat instead of fat!!)

Well good luck to you... the road is long... but at least we are on it!!!

Yas, I also had 5 scars, 4 are very small and 1 about 2 inches. No stitches at all. As for pain, I had a small complication therefore I had pain for about a week but with the pain meds it was bearable. I am 7 weeks post op and I find you kinda forget about the what the pain was really like. I also had the surgery in Mississauga but I had Dr Mumford as a surgeon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
