What Did You Take With You To Mexico?

Recommended Posts

Here is exactly what I took:

Pajamas

A pair of socks (to go home in)

A pair of undies (to go home in)

Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, wet wipes: all trial size)

Cell Phone and Charger

A Book

I was going by bus and I didn't want a lot of luggage so I shoved everything into my backpack. You really don't need anything else than what I listed and you really don't need a book lol You can go home in what you wear to the hospital as long as you don't sweat a lot and take it easy. Unless you plan on sight seeing when you get there, don't bother. Once you are in the hospital, you will most likely spend the whole time in a hospital gown or your pajamas.

I don't actually own any bras without underwires, do you think I should invest in one or can I make do with the underwire bras? They're so expensive, I'd hate to spend 50$ on something that I'll wear a week and then never again. I work from home so I don't even really need to wear a bra when I'm at home.

I was thinking of bringing some saline nasal spray, I'm afraid that without Water it'll get dry, dry mouth, dry nose! Hopefully they let me rinse my mouth out a lot, I think the dryness will be the worst part for me.

I'm bringing my iPad and I'll make sure it has a lot of tv shows and movies on it, and I also have Netflix so if the wi-fi is fast enough then I can watch that too.

I am with you on this, I do not own any bras with out underwires and I also work from home so I hardly wear bras at all unless going out lol :) I love it when I can find others that can relate :)

I am also packing a little pillow as I heard it helps to place inbetween the seatbelt and the tummy on the way home.

If you are going to Dr. Alvarez, he gives you a tummy pillow to take home with you :) not sure what surgeon you are all using though.

I wore home what I wore to the hospital. Slip on shoes. Bottled Water for after discharge. Basic toiletries including Biotin mouth spray, chap stick. Did not use my Gas-X, but did have it. When walking in the hospital wore 2 gowns: one as a regular gown with the second worn as a robe. Took my shower at the hotel thursday. Arrived on a Tuesday, surgery same day, walked & walked Wednesday, discharged fairly early Thursday morning. Read a little, played a few games on my phone. Mostly walked and rested in between. Tried to keep my packing light.

I understand the wisdom of having a pillow to press to your incisions when you cough or need to get up or do something like that, it was a real lifesaver when I had my c-section. I guess I just figured that hospitals would let us have an extra pillow for this use if we asked them, I guess that's not the case? I'm only packing a carry on and a pillow would take up half of it.

Dr Alvarez gives you a pillow, but I didn't need it. Remember, these are laproscopic incisions, not a big long incision like with a c-section. However, I think Bed, Bath & Beyond has those squishy pillows that aren't too big.

Really I packed light and it was still to much! I went through ready for a change and sleeved by Garcia in tj, Mexico. I was in a hospital gown for a while then in 1 pair of pjs. Bring the usual tooth brush, hair brush, hair ties.... My surgeon actually had lip balm, tooth brush, paste read for me there :) grab some undies n loose clothes for when you out in public then your set!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
