What Are Sleevers Eating 5-6 Weeks Out

At 4-5 weeks out I was just transitioning from purée to solids. For me, it was easiest to eat wild salmon and chicken at about 2 oz. I had to be really careful or it would lead to severe uncomfortable feelings ( eg chew and go slow). I did not add beef or pork in until about 6 weeks. If in doubt, eat something easy like scrambled eggs. I also was still drinking shakes for 1 to 2 meals. Today I usually only have a shake for Breakfast because there is no time to make anything and one for bedtime to keep my metabolism happy at night.

I found I could have most anything as long as I chew chew chew and very small bites.. that said, I didn't like the full feeling I got from my tuna /salmon so at the time it just wasn't worth it to me. I found my saving grace with Kraft simply cottage cheese / Cheddar cheese cut into strips / and Soups mornings some times I would make me a scramble with cheese and scallions ... I think it may have been around 6 weeks when I discovered I could eat whole grain tortilla with cheese too! I would make it in a skillet like a grilled cheese or a quesadilla .. it was awesome.. still is.

I do find the Protein shakes make me happy.. period.. I feel better with them daily so I can't stress enough to get you a shake you like and try to get that in you every day. I ran out and I realized I would take more bites through out the day and that in itself made me feel bad ..but my energy level was lower and everything .

I'm 6 weeks out and my stomach still can't handle much! I was told 2 weeks ago I was ok to eat anything but I haven't been able to. I still do shakes, yogurt, pudding with protien and Soups. Lots of soups! For a snack I do a laughing cow cheese with 5 special k cracker chips. I try to stick to all very soft food.< /p>

I see so many people comcerned that they cannot eat certain foods at 4,5 and 6 weeks out, but I am beyond concerned that I can eat almost anything at 2 weeks out with out any problems!!! I want to have issues because it will help keep me in line, but I can eat almost anything just not a lot of it. That can't be good either. I wish I had sensitivities to food, but I don't. I haven't had any issues since the first week. Some things would hurt going down, but now nothing does. I can take rather decent sized bites with out a problem too and I don't have to chew everything to the point of nothing.

i was on liquids/clear/shakes, soft foods, per my NUT for the first 2-3 weeks - gradually forward to solids

Your NUT approved you within a couple of weeks to eat solids, right? You didn't progress on your own, right???

Big discussion earlier, that someone wall allowed to eat a meatball!!! if thats what your NUT said - great - but if no one is guiding you - please just don't eat a meatball/solid cuz you are able to

Ok, if your NUT blessed you to eat solids after a couple of weeks, great.

if you didn't have a NUT, well, maybe you went too quickly into solids. Even though you found out you could eat all foods after a couple of weeks, doesn't mean you have to eat these solids.

you had major surgery, and now have a new tummy. your tummy should be re-cuperating, let it rest. its not too late to go backwards a little, having alot of liquids, and maybe Protein shake. Are you drinking 64 oz of water/liquids?

water/liquids are very important, always, forever and a day - but more so at the beginning. you are only 2/3 weeks Post WLS

go back to basics - always drink - but don't drink 1/2 hr before meals, don't drink during meals, and drink 40-60 minutes after meals

if you were told to proceed to solids, you should only take small size bites, put the silverware down, rest a bit - you must chew your food to death. you must take small bites of food, chew and chew some more, taking a break between the next bite - repeating, just because you can take larger bites without chewing much - this is not how you treat the sleeve. there are rules that should be followed

by chewing slowly your tummy will become more full, eating, slowing down between bites - very important

all the above is IMO - but many true/valid statements

6 weeks out & got the clear from my Dr to resume a normal diet, in moderation, of what my stomach will tolerate.

ProudGrammy, I did get ahead of myself. I experimented and it didn't go badly so I kept going with it. Shocker my weight lost stopped and I gained a pound. I have gone back to basics and I started over today I am more closely following the diet I am suppose to be on except for pureed meat. I cannot do that. I will mash it up but I can't blenderize it. At this point I am suppose to be getting most of my Protein from food but I can still use shakes if need be. I'm still scared tho that I have been able to eat relatively normally. I wonder if the doc didn't tighten me up enough inside or something. I see my doctor Monday the 15th and I have to make an appt. with my Nutritionist. I wanted to wait for my solid food diet tho cause I can only go her so many times under insurance and then I have to start paying for it!

I can too but I am 5 weeks out. I think the best thing for you to do is to get the App MYFITNESSPAL. this way you can count calories and Proteins and be sure not to over do your self. I stick to 800 calories a day. Most days I dont make it.

After my 4 wks of liquids, I have 4 wks of soft foods. Im 5 wks ojt now so I've been eating soft foods for a week now. My biggest go to food is chili with a little melted cheese. Fills me up with very little. Altho I eat 7-8 times a day, I am pretty much getting sick of chili really fast. Every morning I eat 1 egg and 2 pcs melba toast. That will kepp me maybe 3 hrs.

I've also eaten mashed potatoes, refried Beans, turkey lunchmeat, jack cheese, and french fries (no basher please). I have tolerated everything I've tried. The only things I must wait another 3 weeks for is tougher meats (chicken boobs, steak, etc), raw fruits and veggies, bread, rice, Pasta, and nuts and seeds. My program allows for everything in moderation at week 8. Can't wait for my 1st grilled cheese....I could only eat half with my lapband so im hoping 1/3 of it will be enuf with my sleeve.

I lost lost 104 lbs eating evrything in moderation. So I expect my sleeve to work as well (hopefully better) than my lapband...

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
