OK ...I am tripping on my doctor and don't know if it just in my head because I am getting nervous...he said I will be up and around in a couple days and said I could work after no time..and he said it takes him only about an hour for the actaul surgery..he talked me out of the lap band and said sleeve is the way to go(which I believe it is)..and only requested a note from primary ..cardio clearance and some labs..I have a blood clotting Disorder ..where my blood has the gene to clot easily though I have never got a blood clot..I still have the gene..and he didn't ask anything about it and just said that he gives blood thinners after surgery..did anyone else get blood thinners? I also didn't have to loose any weight ..I'm 340 pounds only the pre-op diet..I'm feeling he doesn't care about me..or just wants money..am I crazy? Or is this normal?

I was given blood thinners after surgery and I dont have a history. I think its routine to give the blood thinners. Also, I was not required to loose any weight either and I started at 330. But if your not 100% confident with your surgeon u may want to look around.

I wouldn't worry about it.. I was 356 going into surgery.. they gave me blood thinners before and after surgery. I didn't have any blood clot disorder. I did have to get the cardiologist clearance because I have a high heart rate all the time. I only had to do a 5 day liquid diet prior to surgery because it helps shrink your liver and make surgery easier. My surgery only took an hour and I had no complications, only had one night in the hospital. You will be just fine, I think the more you worry the more bad things you imagine can happen. My dr said this is a pretty safe surgery, yes you will have pain, but you will recover much sooner than anything you mentioned above. Stay positive, having a positive outlook is key! Good luck :)

I think blood thinners is just protocol after any major surgery. I had to give myself shots at home for a week after each of my knee replacements. Better safe than sorry :) I too went on the liver shrinking diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery, no caloric restrictions & no weight loss needed just the liver thing. Have total confidence in your surgeon or find one that makes you comfortable. Sometimes its just "us" playing headgames & as you say, overthinking it ! Good luck with your decision:)

I have had blood clots after hip surgery. My doc requires everyone to go on blood thinners after surgery. I am going to my doc on Fri and I am going to ask him about the plan for this. Although I do have a filter inside me so no clots will move up. You need to feel comfortable call regarding your concerns.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
