Fear Of The Unknown Of What To Eat

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had fear prior to surgery that they would not get enough nutrition or the fear of not knowing how or what to eat properly after your surgery?

Not at all. My nut gave me a meticulous list. The goal is dense protien fluids and supplements. Barring a complete inability to swallow (not impossible). I feel I could get in enough nutrition.

I was totally worried but more about dehydration and not being able to get enough fluids in. I even ordered some IV Fluid just in case I freaked out but it was all just fine! I think more than anything you are going to miss certain foods you were used to prior. I miss salads- guess I can't eat them for another two months. The other key thing is find a good Multivitamin that you trust! You will do great- this is so much easier than I thought it was going to be.

I feel EXACTLY the same way!! Even though I had several visits with my fantastic nutritionist, I all of a sudden feel "lost" at 4 days until surgery!

Just nerves and a bit of panic I guess. :)

Before my surgery I was planning my meals that would be a couple months down the line from the Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies cookbook. I NEVER made one of those meals. All of my palnning and i never did make any of those meals. Just take it day by day. You need to sip, sip, Water all day. You must stay hydrated. I could not stand the taste or consistency of powdered whey Protein or Unjury powders, so i never drank them. I concentrated on Premier Protein shakes from costco, and reduced sodium Wyler's chicken boullion cubes. I have always taken Bariatric Advantage chewable mulitple Vitamins, chewable Iron, sublingual B12. and gel Vitamin D. I am 10 months out and at goal and I still take these same vitamins and still drink almost a gallon of water a day as well as a rtd Protein Drink. You will know what your restrictions are so don't worry. Your sleeve may not tolerate the things you would like it too. In fact your taste buds do change, so you can not really plan ahead like you may think you can.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
