Exercising And Sickness - Help Please!

Recommended Posts

Three months out, lost right around 60 pounds, can't complain on that part. But one thing that is concerning me is that every single time I work out, I experience a whole body sickness feeling. Nausea, shaking, sick to stomach, light headed, it's so bad I can't even take a sip of Water. Well tonight after I had finished my workout (which to most wouldn't even be that hard, 30 minutes in all of cardio, nothing too crazy) and I was running to the bathroom dry heaving. I think I would have thrown up if I had something in my stomach, but I make sure to not eat for at least two hours before a workout. So, anyone know what's going on or experienced this? Any information would be helpful!

Does this happen if you just take a walk? I would discuss it with your doctor.

Your body is too tired. Have a Protein shake 30 min before you work out. Breathe...make sure you are breathing right and fill your lungs. You should maybe stretch for a good 5-10 min before and after. Warm up & down. See if that helps.

** I used to work out first thing in the mornings and a similar thing happened to me. I havent had surgery yet, so I can only speak from pre-op experience **

Good luck & keep us posted.

Are you sweating a lot while working out? If you aren't replacing fluids you could be dehydrated. Also, maybe try half a banana before your workout. When I was doing a very low carb diet/work out plan once, they recommended that little bit of carbs beforehand...hope this helps :)

My personal trainer told me it is very important to eat something before you work out. She told me this after the first time I worked out with her and admitted I had not eaten anything yet.

I got very dizzy and light headed. I believe the medical term is orthostatic hypotension.

No, I'm a college student at one of the big ten schools so I walk at least a mile and a half a day just to get to and from classes. These feelings only occur when I get my heart rate up, when I'm actually trying to exert myself.

I've never really experienced profuse sweating, even when I was at a fit 145 in high school and working out with my swim team (included exercise out of the pool as well lol) for two-three hours a day.

Thanks for the information! I'll be sure to eat a little closer to working out!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
