when were most of you allowed to incorporate salad back into your diets? My NUT is out of network, so working on finding another one (not paying $225 for a NUT visit when I've met all deductibles and out of pocket max for the year). just curious as I've been having some serious salad cravings....

I wish my insurance would cover a NUT, but they wont :(

I started eating salads...lettuce around 3 months. It was a little too hard to digest before that.

I'm going to the support group next Wed at Baylor Plano so I can get the NUT's information and make an appointment after the group session -which is free from the hospital - so I'll ask then. other than a salad craving - I'm doing great - a SLOW loser, but no pain and no nausea and can eat anything except ground beef/turkey - not sure why that is....but I'll live without it for now.

About 2 1/2 - 3 months was when I finally broke down and had a salad and it gave me no problems.

It was 3 months for me but I only do spinach salad with either chicken or shrimp. I can eat regular lettuce but prefer the nutritional value of spinach. This is what I take to work everyday for lunch.

I was told no raw foods until I hit the 3 month mark. I cannot wait to have sushi again.

I went to Dr Barker and his NUT Dr Thompson told me last week Spinach salad is much better for you then the normal Lettuce Salad, which is fine with me because I love Spinach Salads! He told me you can have it whenever your ready for it and your stomach can handle it. I have had two salads this week with no problems. Remind you I'm only on my 6th week and eat 2-3 bites at a time, but it was very tasty with no side effects!

I started working with small salads with some leftover meat around the end of the first month. I mostly use chopped spinach instead of lettuce to boost the nutrition a bit, and some misc. salad veg. Doc told me to add veg to my diet at day ten as my Protein intake was more than adequate at that time (so make sure you are still getting in your protein when you add salad to the mix!)

I'm 6 weeks out and got the ok to try if I like. I'm nervous about it but will probably try some salad soon.

Raw veggies/salad for me were 6 months. Too hard to digest. I sneaked in a bite or two at 5 months...bad me. Plus, lettuce has little nutritional value, so why bother? You only get calories from dressing.

When in doubt, ask your surgeon. Good luck! I love my sleeve and have no regrets.

I'm going to try a little bit of spinach at lunch today with grilled chicken and hard boiled egg - not going to do any raw veggies yet. Our cafeteria here at work is fantastic -we get 3 Soups to choose from, huge salad bar, deli area, pizza area, 3 cafe areas that offer grilled meats and salads and other choices, and then a hot food area with 2 different meats and 6 veggies to choose from - so I always can find healthy choices - just end up spending all day eating it....which is fine. yesterday took me 2.5 hrs to finish 8oz chicken tortilla Soup (12 gm protein). I am such a cheap date now!!

Thanks for posting! I made the mistake of having a salad the other night and man did it make me sick!!! I didn't know I couldn't have it yet. It is nice to know 3 months seems to be the magic number. Thanks everyone for your input!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
