I went back to work 5 days after surgery. I work 12 hour days. It was too soon, but completely do-able. It takeS several weeks for the exhaustion to subside. And honestly about 3 months to feel back to normal. Nap every chance you get. With that being said, this is undoubtably the BEST decision I have ever made. I am almost 5 months out, lost 77 pounds, and I feel healthier than I ever have.

GOOD LUCK :) :)

It is comparable with the C Sections... I was good on my own within a day or two but everyone is different...

I was off work for two weeks. I was told not to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk for one or two weeks (can't remember which). The first week, I was very tired and wanted to sleep all the time. After the first week, I started feeling much better, more alert, and able to get things done.

I know I am not female but I felt good within 2 days of surgery, and like New_Hope, I was told by the entire staff not to lift more than a gallon of milk for a month. Then, the day I was being released from the hospital, my surgeon/doctor stopped in to see me and said that I was perfectly fine to pick up my 1 year old who weighed in at over 20 lbs. He said it may hurt but was not going to hurt me....if that made sense. And, the day we left the hospital, my wife and I went to the daycare to get my daughter and I picked her up then and had absolutely no issues since. I was not able (allowed) to drive for a week after but I was off pain meds after the first day of being home from the hospital. I dont think I even needed them but wanted to make sure the pain dindt creep up on me. But, again, everyone is different so my experience may be completely different from yours....

How long until I felt good? Pretty much right away. But I am speaking of the help of morphine and later Lortab. Being a child of the 60's I know how to ride the chemicals. B)

As far as getting back to "normal" it hasn't happened yet but that's a good thing in my case. My dear wife helped me for 2 weeks which, of course, I milked for all it was worth.

I can't identify with a C-section but this was much easier than my appendectomy that I had at age 13 and about the same as my gall bladder removal that occurred shortly before my sleeving.

The soreness in my abdomen can be felt when I do exercise even at 8 months out. I take it easy on push-ups and no crunches.

You can look at my profile to get an idea of what i am talking about, but I had complications, but without the upset and such I think I could have returned 2 weeks out.

is this normal?...

i just talked with my doc yesterday about getting the sleeve... i imagined being able to get back to bodybuilding well before 8 months out... (i'm a female, i know my comment there makes it sound very masculine, but i assure you folks i'm a girl. lol) anyway.. wow.. :/ if and when i get sleeved, i want to return to exercising as soon as humanly possible. how long are you usually weak like this? :( i don't mean that as offensively as it came out... (i don't mean it to be offensive at all, honestly).. just shocking that you can't do crunches or situps and it's 2/3 of a year!

My first initial response after reading the topic head line was, "At night.."

:P

One a serious note, it took me a good 3-4 weeks. The first couple weeks I was really tired and took naps. I never take naps.

LOL at the thread title *sorry I have a dirty mind*

By day 3 post op I felt back to normal and now that I'm a week out I have zero pain and my incision doesn't hurt. I have 3 kiddos and have been able to do everything for them that I was doing before.

Are you looking for when you felt like ... "Did I really even have surgery?" That was just about 5 or 6 months. My new habits were in place, hair stopped falling out even with Biotin supplements, and energy level was above pre surgery.

I love my sleeve and have no regrets.

I'm 33 years old- mom of 4 kids. ( 11,9,4,2). Honestly I felt great at about 8-10 days. I came home from the hospital and started walking every day, and I think that helped. The lifting was kind of a big deal since I have a 2 year old. I really was strict with myself and followed my guidelines post op.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
