UTGal99 327 Posted October 9, 2012 I am 5 days post-op (sleeved on 10/3/12) - I passed the leak test with flying colors; however, am now wondering what are possible complications that could arise? I am home, feeling great, drinking fluids, eating well, etc. Just want to know what I should be looking for as possible post-op complications???

TamaraS 235 Posted October 9, 2012 Blood clots is all I know besides leaks. The surgeon said blood clots most likely the first month after surgery!
iegal 460 Posted October 9, 2012 Glad to hear you are fine, don't worry about what could be. Just be vigilant. Your surgeon should have had to sign off on a list of possible complications prior to surgery and given you a copy...at least if you are in US. Here is what I found on internet. Possible Complications The mortality rate within the first 30 days after surgery is very low, about 0.5 percent, which is comparable to the gastric bypass. Short-term complications following a vertical sleeve gastrectomy also are similar to those of the gastric bypass and include blood clots, leakage along the suture lines, and wound infection. Long-term complications can include stricture, GERD, ulcers, gallstones, staple line disruption, weight re-gain, and nutritional deficiencies.
