Nsv From My 12 Yr Old Daughter

Recommended Posts

Well, she kinda hurt my feelings too. She said "mom, I use to be so embarrassed to go anywhere with u, but now im proud that your my mom. Your so pretty now". WOW. And thats one of the reasons I had this surgery. I dont ever want my kids to feel embarrassed by me. Im so thankful for het being so open and honest with me.

Great NSV from your daughter... and give her a break about being totally honest with you now. I think it's amazing that she managed not to say anything before you lost the weight! Most kids aren't that diplomatic. :)

Kids are honest. My son called me a brown cow. He started crying after he said it and I know he was sorry but you are right, words are sharp. He was only saying what others think.

My 6y/o daughter cried when someone told her she was just like her mom (they meant her personality) because she thought it was their way of calling her fat. She was constantly telling me I'm too big and she even excluded me from a picture she drew at school of her family because I was too big I wouldn't fit on the page with her dad, brother, sister and herself. (Yeah I cried when no one was looking). After having decided to go through with this surgery I feel better about the way she views me now because I know it wont be forever. The other night though, we were watching the actual procedure on youtube and she came in to the room and apparently started watching it as well because the next thing I know I'm hearing her say "That's NOT going to happen mom! There is no way I am letting someone hurt you like that and make you bleed. You're not having that surgery." LOL, well yes I am having this surgery and it will make all of our lives better! It just seemed so weird to see how her young opinion changed so quickly once she seen what it actually involved, she decided she would rather have a fat mom then to let her mom go through all that. She doesn't have a choice in the matter, but it was very sweet to know she was concerned for me.

Aww. That is sweet and sad. My son is four and I think he is just realizing I am heavy. I also worry and hate to think of him being embarrassed by me. I look forward to being a healthier role model in the future!

Yeah, kids are so brutally honest - just before my surgery my then 6 year old daughter kept coming home from school upset because her classmates were telling her how fat I was. It was bad enough being bullied myself at school, I was really hurt when my daughter started to get problems because of my weight too.

This too shal pass though - stick with it, it's worth it xx

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
