I Have Surgery Nov 7Th Debating On How Much Time To Takr Off Work

Recommended Posts

I have only one week off for surgery. I don't want more than that off. I have a counseling job. I just have clients and computer paperwork and the girls at work said they would help me if I am feeling tired or bad. What do you guys think?

Most people with office jobs have said that they only take a week off from work. I teach so i took 4 weeks off. Which i needed because i stayed on the pain meds for a week and a half. I think that it depends on how you feel after the surgery.

It all depends on how well you recover. And there is no way you can foretell that. I would say it should be ok, but I would fill out your FMLA paperwork before your surgery. There's no harm in covering all your bases. If your gut instinct is to take more time...then do it. Follow your gut.

Good luck!!

Although its an elective surgery it is still medically necessary for us to lead a healthier lifestyle :) I work at the office and I'm taking 3 weeks. I have 4 vacation days left and I have SHort term disability with fmla. If ur job offers it I would definitely take full advantage. If uu heal well and feel as though you will have help I wish u best of luck and hope u have a speedy recovery :) they seem supportive so I wouldn't worry

I understand. It's hard when you are trying to make a good impression. Especially given the job market, starting a new job is hard. All will be well and go exactly as it is meant to.

Im not sleeved yet, but from what I've read, it really varies. Obviously we can't tell the future, but I know of people who were back to light duty in less than a week. Im taking 11 days off (total...surg on Oct 27, back to work Nov 7) and I work in a very busy doctors office doing ultrasounds. I plan to go back earlier if im feeling up to it. One of my sleeve sisters is going back after 5 days, and I read one poster who went back in 3...a week should be fine, but id prepare your paperwork just in case!

If you go to your profile, on the main page (use a real computer not your smartphone)there should be an area that says edit profile or add photo. Look around the main profile page...you'll find it :-).

My doc said I can probably go back in a week. If i want to. But his nurse told me that the average is 3 and they start with an estimate of four. Even with all of that, I know someone who struggled to go back at five. :(. It truly is a case by case thing. I only wanted to take a week but the more I think about it, the more I'm looking forward to a vacation!! Yay sleeve!

I took two weeks off. It was plenty of time in my case. Your job is protected under FMLA. Contact your HR department to get the proper paperwork needed.

I went back to work in a week (computer work) I did fine but you will need lots of rest when you are home. I took a good 4-6 weeks for me to get back to normal. When I was able to start eating i felt better. I also had some bad brain days second thoughts even though there was no going back. But now 75 lbs lighter I am so glad I did it sz 14 pants and large shirts. Its the best feeling ever.

I work in a office also. I planned on one week, but decided to take two. I'm so glad I did, I needed the extra time. I was so tired.

Fmla has very specific rules and all companies are NOT required to offer it - further Fmla doesn't address pay - just keeping your job while you take the time off - dol (department of labor) regs are very specific. Just don't assume everyone is entitled to Fmla.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
