mzsmartypantz 0 Posted October 2, 2006 Does any one have a recommendation for a book on the lap band experience? I have seen several on Amazon, but not sure which one I should order. :phanvan
Mari 0 Posted October 2, 2006 Hi there I live in the UK and just ordered on Amazon: Before & After: Living & Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Susan Nuziato Leach and Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery: The Delicious Way to Eat in the Months and Years After Surgery by William B. Inabnet I am looking forward to reading them as a preparation for my operation, which will be hopefully in early spring next year. I need to stay inspired to make the waiting time go faster. Reading this Forum sure helps as well! I would also love to have some more ideas from those who've been there, especially ideas for food just after the op (liquid diets), as I don't think much of the products you can get in the USA are available here. Cheers Mari
mzsmartypantz 0 Posted October 2, 2006 Mari: I am looking at that same book on Amazon! What did you think of the Amazon review of it?
MarcyD 0 Posted October 2, 2006 I have those same two books and really liked them. I also have Dr. Ortiz's Lapband for Life and "The real skinny on weight loss surgery" I didn't like the second one as much, as it is geared more toward RNY. Dr. Ortiz's book is really good about some detailed info and basics on living with the band. I read a TON before my surgery!
Fauxnaif 1 Posted October 3, 2006 The one by Jessie Ahroni is good and specific to the band.
CATCHUP 0 Posted October 3, 2006 I Also Read Dr. Ortiz, Lapband For Life. It Was A Very Good Read. It Covered What To Expect To Problems With Your Band And Why You May Not Be Losing Weight. I Could Not Put It Down. I Read Cover To Cover In Maybe 48 Hours. I Got If On Amazon Too For About 15 Bucks. I Say Read All You Can So That You Will Know Exactly What You Are Getting Into. skyeblu79 0 Posted October 3, 2006 Is there anywhere else to purchase Dr. Ortiz' book besides Amazon? I looked on his website and it said they were out. I also checked ebay and it's never on there. I might just have to pay the $19.95 plus shipping on Amazon for a used book. But if anyone can post if it's cheaper anywhere.
CATCHUP 0 Posted October 4, 2006 I Think You Can Get It Off His Website Brand New At Obesitycontrolcenter.com But I Don't Know If It Is Any Cheaper Than Twenty.
JDru 0 Posted October 4, 2006 I bought Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Patt Levine and it's more of a cookbook than informational. But it has some really tasty recipes and they're good for all stages (except clear liquids). I highly recommend that one. I also bough Exodus From Obesity by Paula Peck. She had bypass so she focuses a lot on that. But I think it did have some good info on how to work on yourself after the surgery: self-image, head hunger, exercise, eating out, etc. I do think it's a bit pricey though. Have you checked out the library?
skyeblu79 0 Posted October 4, 2006 Yesterday, I went ahead and ordered 2 books, Lap Band for Life & Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding: Achieving Permanent Weight Loss with Minimally Invasive Surgery, from Amazon. The books combined were about $32. They offer free shipping if you have a combined order of at least $25. There were reviews of the books on the Amazon website too... S@ssen@ch 745 Posted October 4, 2006 I have: Before & After: Living & Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Susan Nuziato Leach. I bought this one knowing it was geared toward and written by a gastric bypass patient. But, I saw that it had very specific dietary recommendations and excellent advice for permanent weight loss, including a multitude of GREAT recipes. I use the recipes to this day. I've even chatted with Susan on her website. Wonderful woman. Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding by Jessi Ahroni. I bought this one so that I would have something to help me understand the procedure and life after lap banding. It does that and is helpful for those: What if's and What's happening to me now's. I find it's a good resource.
