Love To Walk

Recommended Posts

I love love love to walk. I was walking 2-3 miles a day my goal was 4 miles aDay In an hour. I nan do 2 miles in 30 min. So doable. That is until an old hip injury resurfaced. I had surgery on my left hip in 04. And was part of the reason I gain the weight. Now I'm lucky to get a day where I can

get my 2 miles in Then I'm laid up for a few days in pain from the hip injury. Winters coming to NNY. So I planning on getting a gym membership. Any suggestions. Anyone out there suffering from chronic pain in their joints too.

I have chronic pain in both hips, one has osteoarthritis and bursitis, the other has rheumatoid arthritis. I also had a torn ACL in my right knee, which is how I gained over 100 pounds when I could no longer exercise. It's been over 3 years since the torn ACL, and I am determined to get back into shape. I don't just want to lose weight, I want to be healthy and active. It's painful most days, but I really feel good too. I belong to the "Y", and on days that I'm in a lot of pain, I'll do Water aerobics instead.

Be kind to your body. I think when a setback like this happens, it becomes an exercise for the mind . . . how to keep moving forward when your body, not your mind, is holding you back. I haven't been where you are but to me common sense says, slow down, heal.

Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
