I went to the dr. today and she said my shoulder is inflamed. And since I can't take NSAIDS, she gave me a cortisone shot to take down the swelling.

Well, they get out the needle......it's about the same size as my fill needle, get set up and tell me to relax my arm. Hmmmm....ok........

Then they swab the back of my shoulder, spray some freezing spray on the spot so I don't feel the poke (wish they would do that when I get a fill!), tell me I'm going to feel, "a bit of pressure" and.....

omg, omg, omg, omg .....oh my GOD!!!!! Did it HURT!!!!!!!! The needle went right into the joint and must of put the liquid right where it is swollen the most because I haven't felt that much pain in ages.

Now though, it doesn't hurt as much....just aches. I have some liquid Advil (childrens, I'm going to have to drink half the bottle) so I can sleep thru the aching tonight. Then hopefully it will start to get better. I have to go to PT for a while, but the dr. doesn't think it's too bad. My x-rays looked good and I have very little arthritis and no bone spurs. So that's good.

The dr. says it's a vicious circle....you hurt your rotator cuff, it swells, it pushes against the bone because of the swelling, that irritates it more, it swells more......and on and on and on. And since I can't take anti-inflamatories, I wasn't able to control the swelling. So hopefully this shot will do the trick.

Anyway, I go back to see her in a month.

OUS -- One hundred pounds??!!!! Wow! Congratulations!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

DREWS -- At least you know what the problem is now. Will the recovery be very long after your surgery? I hope that the problem gets fixed.

MYRA -- I'm glad to hear your new medicine is working well. Now, your teeth......

LapBANDIT -- Your G-son must be the same age as my youngest. He played 9th grade football this year until he tried to cut off his thumb. The dr. said no more football till the stitches come out and of course the season will be over by then. My whole family LOVES football. That's why my youngest's name is Payton.....after Walter Payton and the BEARS!!!! Da Bears.......go Bears!:biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1:

Just checking in, I haven't been here for a few weeks and I'm feeling guilty.

ousooner-You are an inspiration to all of us! Keep it up!

I keep all of you in my prayers, we all have struggles whether it's with our personal life, spiritual life or our weight! Keep your heart and mind focused on what is really important. ...This too shall pass.

When I got my last fill on 9/18, I felt a bit more restriction but last week, WHOA! I had my first puke, and that is certainly something I was hoping to avoid altogether and I hope to never repeat it. It is kinda weird, I have more restriction now than I did right after the fill. My birthday is in about a month and I'm hoping to give myself a birthday present of a trip to ONE-DERLAND. I have to get my driver's license renewed and it would be so cool to put a ONE-DERLAND weight on it since it hasn't been there since it was first issued to me when I was 16!

Hi All,

My band doesn't seem to be too fickle about the foods I eat; just the manner in which I eat them.

Until now that is! I am a few days PMSing now and lets see...I've PB'd about 4-5 times in the last three days. I can't eat things I normally can and I was just tummy growling starving so decided to have a banana and I can barely choke 1/2 of it down. I need to feed my PMS darn-it! I want food! WAAAAAAHHHHH!

LindaV: Poor baby, I feel so bad for you. I don't have the monthly issues anymore but totally understand the feeding statement. Used to do the same thing. Whats strange now is every now and then I will feel like I'm having pms symptoms... or maybe I'm just a crabby wench now?

And yes it is beautiful here in the fall, reminds me of home. Its not that far away from home anyway, I'm just being a whiner. I'm really good at it. Just wish I could have the cheese to go with it.

Just Duckie: I should have probably explained that my G-Son is playing for the ESFL which is kinda like a little league for football although they do have a Varsity team with an age range from 13-15 (with weight limits... to keep it a bit less dangerous for the skinny kids).

My G-Son is only 10. My eldest.. whom I tell all my young male admirers was adopted when he was 12 and I was a mere 18, is 30. No, don't do the math, its my story and I'm sticking to it. I figure if I can still attract men who are younger than me I can make up any story I want to. :heh:

I always tell the truth about my age, doesn't bother me I'm proud of it... I made it this far and got this big and have not bit the dust yet so I feel very lucky, very lucky indeed. Bye the way... I'm 48 and I think I may be the Old Mayster in the group.

Cortisone.... my friend. Have lots of those for my knees and I do know that pain very well. It's killer!!! Hurts so darn bad when they shoot ya but should help within a day or so. I also get the synthetic cartilage shots... extremely painful also but works within minutes and can keep the pain away for months!! The last one I had was at least 8 months ago or more and I only have what I call 'normal' pain now. Good stuff if any of you have cartilage issues in your knees. I have heard though that it has a 50-50 chance of working for ya. Again, I feel lucky.

My, I have babbled tonight.

Hope all are well and good this fine Fall night.

Hey folks had the teeth worked on yesterday. I am on Vicoden(big dose) pretty regular at the moment. Go back this morning to fix the rough spots.

I was in the dentist chair for seven hours with my mouth open. I really thought I would have sore TM joints today but I don't. Wish I could say that about the rest of my mouth.

Anyway I will fill ya'll in later when I am not quite so loopy.

Myra

I went to Six Flags this weekend and have a blast. I am down enough that I was able to ride all the rides I wanted with no problems fitting. I hadn't been able to ride for some time. I was able to make good food choices. I got a smoked turket leg, took the skin off and ate a little less than half of it. Just thought I would update everyone.

My name is Calanne. I live in Pearland, Texas. I was banded on May 11, 2006 by Dr. Spiegel in Houston. To date I have lost only 26 pounds, but the inches have really fallen off! I am 61 and a retired teacher. Soon to be a first-time Grandma! I went to the Texas A&M/Missouri football game over the weekend and I WALKED all over the place. That is a moral victory for ma as I have serious arthritis and use a cane regularly. I am so proud of myself because in July, just post-op I went to Mary Kay Seminar in Dallas and could not for the life of me walk more than 5 yards without stopping! What a difference. Anyway, I would like to join your nice group of May folks! I need help and support on a regular basis! Hope to be part of this group!

Welcome Calanne!

Congrats Ousooner! I too rode on rides for the first time at our state fair over Labor Day. What a thrill!

I'm on vacation from work for the week and found myself up early and walking my normal walk before noon, usually I walk in the evenings. Tonight I'm starting yogalates (yoga and pilates). I bought a video some months ago but haven't done them yet, I needed to get a theraband. Anyone else out there doing much for toning? Especially you Ousooner? With your fabulous weight loss, what are you doing to tone?

Marz-- I walk and when I get time, I do light weights. At PT today, the therapist had me doing simple stuff.....very light weights or stretchy bands and I thought my right arm was going to fall off! I need to do more because my skin is start to HANG and I hate it. Yes, I'm planning on having plastic surgery when I reach my goal weight, but that's a good year and a half away, so I would like to do SOMETHING so this horrible hanging skin tights up some. But underneath that bagginess, I'm getting down right buff! LOL!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
