One Week Out! And Still In A Lot Of Pain :(

Recommended Posts

So today is one week since my sleeve surgery....and I really hoped I would feel better than this. I actually felt better the first 4 days after surgery and its gotten worse since then. I have really bad stomach pains, like when you are extremely hungry and have those hunger pangs and nothing makes them go away. My incisions are healing fine and don't even hurt. I don't have a fever. And I am walking. I don't have any kind of reflux, its just bad pain in my belly. I am on a liquids only diet so I have been drinking watered down apple juice, Vitamin Water, SF popsicles, and lots of broth. I add the unflavored Protein Powder to my broth each day.

I have my one week follow up appt tomorrow and I am hoping for some relief. I welcome any ideas or suggestions any of you have. Thanks.

They pump you do full of fluids and your body is swollen so that explains the weight. Your tummy is very sensitive and it probably is irritated. Reflux mimics hunger pains a lot of the time. It takes a bit to get used to. I felty better day 1-3 than 4-7. It gets better and you will see the scale move. I know a lot of people who actually gained in the hospital due to the ivs and swelling.

Try using a heating pad when you rest. That might help some. Also did your doctor send you home with a binder to wrap around your abdomen? Mine sent me home with one and it has really helped me. They told me to use it as long as I needed it.

You may need an acid reducer to help with the tummy issue. Also, apple juice is somewhat acidic on the new sleeve. Perhaps you could try either mixing it with Water or eliminating it for a few days to see if that helps with the pain. As for not losing weight, everyone above is right, we are pumped full of IV fluids during surgery and it takes some time for that weight to go away.

Good luck!! :)

I woke up at 430 this morning with those exact pans. Felt like hungerx100000. I figured it was aci and sucked on a Prevacid tablet. Seemed to help it for about 2 hours. But then It started again. I figured the Prevacid helped only for 2 hours because its supposed to be taken 30 mins before food. Maybe it needed food to work. Ate some sf pudding and it's gone away. Hope u start to feel better! Tomorrow I will be a week post op:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
