Bornagain 9 Posted October 8, 2012 I am diabetic and my b/s has been uncontrolled for years. I backed out of surgery two years ago because I thought I could work harder and control my blood sugars. Well I failed over and over. I was up and down, finally they had to up my meds and my insulin. My pancreas was working at 20 % so I decided to do it rather than let my illness totally destroy my organs. I sleeved on October 2, 2012. I stayed in the hospital for two days and so far aside from the usual gas pain everything is going good. My sugars are dropping daily. In the morning I wake up and they are below 120. I am really going to stay focused and am so grateful I did not have complications. 2 Pattyhdz and kristikay reacted to this
kristikay 60 Posted October 8, 2012 Glad everything is going so well and it is wonderful you are getting your diabetis under control. I am wonering if they wanted you do have bypass or if they recommended the sleeve? I got the feeling my surgeon thought bypass was better for diabetics than the sleeve. I am hoping to get the sleeve over the bypass. I am not diabetic but my blood sugar has been rising over the past two years and am definetly prediabetic. Bornagain 9 Posted October 8, 2012 Pretty much after I attended two classes to learn all about the different procedures the choice was up to us. If the surgeon thought we should pick another surgery they would advise us. I picked the sleeve because it was less invasive. Yes the rny has a higher percentage for diabetics but the sleeve was also up in the percentages.
