Backache Since Surgery 4 Weeks Ago

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 weeks post-op. Pre-surgery I never had backaches, however, since surgery my back hurts daily. The pain is between my shoulder blades (lower part) down to the lower center of my back.

Has anyone else experienced this? The PA at my surgeon's office suggested I see my primary care doc and get a prescription for muscle relaxants. Not crazy about this answer....... Tylenol doesn't really put a dent in the pain.

Ideas?

I had the same. I went to my chiro a few times after surgery & now it's fine at 4 weeks out!

I would see a chiropractor if he can do an adjustment with out bothering your stomach. You may be holding your body in a differnet way or sleeping differently putting strain on your muscles. Doing some light stretches may help.but like you I'd want to stay away from muscle relaxers.

Mine was great about that. He adjusted me very carefully, and still does as not to bother my stomach.

Perhaps a good massage therapist? My dad is an MD and I hate to admit it, but I have a definite reluctance to see a chiropractor from stories he's told :(

I have been going to chiropractors for years and they help me more than anything else. You need to find a good one that will listen to your concerns. I had low back surgery and my doctor stays away from that area but when I start getting neck pain and headaches the cure is seeing the chiropractor.

I agree with above! Avoid pain pills like the plague! They just mask the issue! You have probably stretched muscles you haven't used in a while or lost some stomach support (it's mostly your tummy muscles that support your spine!) while on bed rest! You can also see a physio for some electro therapy and get a good heat pillow and use regularly!
