Still Have An Appetite 4 Days Post Op

Recommended Posts

What is so different? I would read posts as a pre op, seeing sleevers complaining of not being able to swallow Water, getting fluids stuck, pain and dehydration. I was surprised that right after my leak test I was drinking 3-4 oz of Water, then finishing my broth, eating my sorbet and drinking water...and not over an hour either. Is it bougie size. I know I have read "size really doesn't matter" but I wonder. i was sleeved with a 40 fr , stapled right close to the bougie, because the surgeon felt this gave him the least complications and food intolerances.

Done Did It!

I'm like you as far as bougie size and I was able to heal quickly and tolerate liquids pretty well. For the first two months when eating I could really wnly get in 2oz of refriend Beans etc but now at a little over 4 months I can pretty much get eat 6 to 8oz during a meal. I do get hungry, I mean really really hungry but I get full on much less food then before surgery. You do learn that you can't compare your journey to anyone elses!!

It's funny I was telling my husband this morning that I think the Dr. took out the wrong part of the stomach and left in the side with the hunger hormones. Then I drank some broth and felt like I had a huge brunch at our favorite restaurant.

I was also sleeved on 10/3 and had an unknown hiatel hernia removed. I have had absolutely no pain but feel a little pressure from where they repaired the hernia. Have been shopping (little bit) yesterday and today and am going back to work tomorrow. This will be the real test - have my broth, Jello and Protein drinks ready to go.

Last night I dreamed I ate spicy corn nuts (I don't even eat them) and was hoping the Dr. wouldn't notice :)

If you are within 2-3 weeks of surgery, you should be drinking only Clear Liquids. No mushies..no solids. To this day (and I am a year out) I can still smell food and get "hungry". But its not real hunger. It is want. But as soon as I drink or eat a little something, even if its Water or yogurt, the so called hunger subsides. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach.

Uh...doesn't that depend on your doctors plan? I was allowed to have grits, cream of wheat, pudding and other such foods the day I came home from the hospital. At 2 weeks I was allowed chilli, scrambled eggs and tuna.

Maybe so. But per my doc, to avoid stretching the pouch and to avoid leaks, as your new tummy is so sensitive, its best to stay on liquids to let your new tummy adjust to the changes. Its worked for me. I have had no complications and am a size 10 down from a size 24.

Gosh I love the sounds of being a size 10 down from 24! I so hope I can do it too! Congrats!

What I meant was, I think each person should follow THEIR doctor's plan, not YOUR doctor's plan.

Well said Butter.

At 2 weeks I will be on puréed food, and at 3 weeks I can move to soft food. I do realize each doctor is different. And if I get to those next stages and my new stomach cannot take it, I will go back to full liquids..with my head hanging in disappointment. :)

Just what you should do....except for the head hanging part. :)

Definitely depends on your doctor. I was on puréed 8 days out and start soft foods tomorrow. Sleeved 9/25. My surgeons office is 100% free of leaks.

That is completely normal! I was a mess for a few days post-op. Allow yourself to grieve...you are going through a lot, not only physically but mentally too. I recommend talking to a counselor. Hope you feel better soon!

I was able to drink and had no discomfort from two days post op. I also felt huungry for about a month after surgery, which can be normal. I also never felt full with liquid or mushy foods. I thought I was broken too. Once cleared for all foods I felt the restriction everyone was talking about. I eat 1 to 1.5 oz of Protein and feel full. At first your tummy is still numb, you may take a bit for the hunger hormone to get out of your system, it is hard to tell the diff between real huunger and head hunger. Trust your doctor and follow your plan. You wont fail!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
