Hi!

I've got a question for those of you who have had the endoscopy done before surgery. I am having the endoscopy procedure done on Wednesday and I was told by my doc office that I could either be put under or be away with a numbing spray. Since I'm driving myself and have to go to work after I said I'd do the numbing spray. Now several people that I've chatted with are saying it really needs to be done while you are under. So, here I sit, 3 days before the procedure and I'm scared and not sure what to do. My husband can't drive me because he has to get our kids on the bus and like I said, I'm supposed to go right to work afterwards.

I plan to call the doc office tomorrow, but has anyone else done this with just the numbing spray? What can I expect? I've never had this done before and I'm a little scared.

Thanks!!!

I had both done at the procedure. They gave me orange juice and then my boyfriend picked me up. I do suggest you call out of work that day and you should definitely go under things way you wont feel anything. I dozed off speaking to the doctor while he was inserting the tube and all i remember was him pulling it out and saying all done. And then I went home and slept off whatever they gave me.

I was awake and did it with the nasal spray back in September 2013

It's uncomfortable

Felt like I wanted to vomit as the tube was going down

Dr nusbaum at morristown memorial was as gentle and professional as he could be which I'm grateful for but I did gently push his hand away as I felt like I was gagging horribly -- I hope he wasn't offended by that

The spray tastes GROSS!!!

The male nurse was sooooooo comforting and had me squeeze his fingers the whole time (which is less than 2 minutes I think)

I called out of work that day and glad I did cause I was uncomfortable for a while after

I'm glad I was brave enough to do it awake cause I had to drive myself around

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
