For those that had the surgery how painful was it when you woke up? Next day at home? Can you sleep ok? My surgery is next monday preparing myself.

You won't feel or remember anything from the actual surgery. When you wake up in recovery, you will probably be very disoriented and uncomfortable, but they will give you pain medication as soon as they see that you are lucid. There will be times that you feel very sore, have twangs of pain, feel uncomfortable. Walking the halls, moving around, sitting up, and requesting pain medication as you need it will be your first day and perhaps second day. This is not an outpatient surgery. Is it terrible or unbearable? No.

I am home recouping. Had my sleeve surgery done Thursday and was release yesterday from hospital. I am doing pretty good hardly any pain. I been walking around the house and I eve cooked for my family today. Been taking it slow with the clear liquid diet. When I woke up from anesthesia I was in some pain and discomfort but I was given pain meds and felt better. By the time they took me to my room, I was actually able to get off the stretcher myself and was able to lay on bed myself. I walked the same evening. Overall my c section for the birth of my daughter was 10 times more painful.

But also be prepared if you have gas. It can range from unbearable pain (i cried!) to nothing. It really depends on the individual. The good news is the pain doesn't last and its so worth it.

All I remember is how painful the Tummy Tuck was!

My best advice is to not stay in the bed. Sit up in the chair as much as possible, so you don't have to go through the pain of sitting up to go to the restroom, that's when I had the most pain. Plus, sitting up helps with the gas dissipation and weakness. You can just jump up and go for a walk too.

Honestly everyone will have a different answer. I didn't feel any pain because they put you on good drugs in the hospital and then at home i had OXY. I only used the oxy for two days because i wasn't in pain just a little uncomfortable and the incisions were just annoying. I had no issues with gas. I felt like i hadn't even had surgery after about 5 days.

Hi

Truthfylly---For me it was painful...however I was given dilaudid so that def eased the pain...I was up walking only a couple of hours post surgery.. I was super nauseous and was vomiting a lil bit too....gaspain was my biggest issue but I kept walking....I didn't even use any pain med after I was d/c'd from the hosp....it gets BETTER everyday. Now looking back I would do it all over again! Soooo worth everything! It doesn't mean that you will go thru all this...everyone has a different experience...I was sleeved on July 18th....started at 254 lbs and now weigh 217....I feel better than ever! Don't be nervous about your surgery----it's gonna change your life to the BETTER!!! Good luck to you and keep us posted! :-)

I love this post! Thanks to all who responded! My date is Thursday and I return to work on10/22 so I was concerned about pain management (I'm a big baby!) and activity level. If it's not as bad as c-section than I'll be fine!

No it don't hurt till you wake up then it hurts pretty good the 1st day. The drain out is some kind of voodoo crazzy pain you will understand what that is when they take it out. But in all it's not to bad :)

The drain didn't really hurt coming out, but it was incredible weird feeling. When they started tugging, I could feel it throughout my insides, and it was a like a snake was moving fast through my belly. Very weird sensation. It doesn't last long.

As for surgery, I didn't feel too much pain. I had some pain related to the gas, but burping and walking helped get rid of that. I quit taking pain meds less than 24 hours after my surgery. I even went on a boat ride the weekend after my surgery. The Water was a little choppier than it should have been, but I was fine.

I didn't have a drain. I'm not sure what the difference is in procedure, technique or philosophy of requiring one vs not.

After all the threads...I have no doubt ill be fine! I've had many surgeries including lap band...the worst part is the unknown! One week to go!

In your opinion how was the pain compared to natural vaginal birth?

Never had any pain after so never took any pain meds. Not everyone has pain so you may not. Also the drain keeps infection from setting in by draining out the bile and blood, so it is done as a precaution. i didn't even know he took mine out a week later until he held it up and showed it to me. Didn't feel a thing. If you have a choice of whether to have a drain or not, I wold say have it. Otherwise, where would all at bile and blood go? Ii would rather have it drain out than go into my body.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
