Lapband post op. vs Gallbladder removal post op

Recommended Posts

How does it differ? Yesterday I had my gallbladder removed. The paper said that it's ok to take the bandages off today...with my lapband I had to wait till they fell off. Diet wise I can eat anything and so far i've had no trouble. What were your directions, how did they differ from banding post op? Oh yeah and when could you shower?

It was the same as Banding for me. The Dr. said to let the bandages fall off by themself.

Surgeon said to eat low fat foods for a week.

I could take a shower that same day.

Malice, how long ago did you have your band? I had mine in August and I'm meeting with a surgeon tomorrow to talk about getting my GB out too.

I had my gallbladder out, no real instructions about the tape but I was told to stay low fat for a month. I didn't have any problems with the recovery, I felt it was easier than the band. Good luck.

I got my band a little less than a year ago. Around Thanksgiving. Good luck to you. I found it to be very easy. I got up and got moving and tried to kick the drowsieness feeling left from the anestesia, sore but no big deal. Spent an hour walking around Walmart (though a bit slowly) the next day. Keep us posted!

Thanks for the info Seppi!

I see the surgeon tomorrow to schedule my GB surgery. Horrible attack Saturday night and spent 13 hours in ER. Pain finally went away and no fever so I asked to go home as I need to organize work, kids, hubby ect. I had my surgeru in another state before I moved to Florida. I am more scared of the surgeon hitting my band/port.Tubing then I am of anything else. But I also do not to ever have another attack like I did the other night. OMG it was awful. I had requested they take my GB at the time of banding ( 16 months ago ) but they refused as ins would not cover! go figure! I am sooooo thankful it was my GB andnot a problem with my band as I had thought. very scary!

I am just so worried that the port or tubiing with accidently get nicked. I wish I had the $$ to go back to Main and have my band surgeon do for me. Funny, I have become very "possesive" about my band...like it is another appendage. I cannot tell you how worried I was that something had happened to my band. I had myself worked up that it was going to have to be removed and I was going to get fat again...just freaking out. The pain got so bad I had to go to the ER. I am thrilled that my badn is fine. They were very thorough, took lots of xrays and even had me do a barium swallow ( have to say that was cool to watch the liquid go thru my band ) . At least I know my band is exactly where it should be with no issues whatsoever. I'll get thru this as well. From what I here the recovery period is better then when banded. ( And that was not so bad for me )...I'll keep you posted as well...

Michelle, I'm going thru the same thing. I was SO worried my band slipped and was a little relieved it was my gallbladder. I met with a surgeon today and I'm scheduled for Monday, October 9th - 2 months since being banded.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
