D-Day Countdown 2 Days

Recommended Posts

Just arrived in San Diego and will be traveling to Mexicali to see dr aceves for surgery on Monday. Had my cheat meal yesterday. I know, I know but I think I started to feel anxious about not having brownies and lamb for awhile. Anyway, other than that I was model patient for 2 weeks and stuck with the Protein shakes. Premier was a lifesaver.

Tomorrow I have preop testing and I hope everything goes well. I basically had to sneak off work at a bad time to do this. So much was going on buti had to put myself first for change.

Anyway good luck to all of October sleevers. I'll let you know how e erything goes tomorrow.

Well it's now day 2 after the procedure. I'm so happy my mom travelled with me. Surgery went well although my immediate recovery didn't. Seemed I had a bit of nausea and vomiting. Not that I remembered anything.

Like others who have posted, I will say I was impressed by the facility. As a nurse, I took in the experience cautiously although I was confident in my choice from my research and the great info by the members of this group. During preop the 3 physicians spoke to me not only about the surgical procedure but the work I would need to do mentally after the procedure. They explained the prep, anesthesia and the recovery phase. They even had time to answer the questions I had written down but honestly I had done a lot reading prior to getting here so they supported everything I had learned. Everything from the ride from San Diego, our interactions with the patient care coordinator, Yolanda, and the overnight stay at the hotel was smooth and very professional.

Post op day 1 - I slept. What can I say. The drugs were excellent. Unfortunately I haven't slept since :-(. I have 4 incisions and one is a drain. No gas to walk off thank god and a colostomy bag around the drain so my skin was protected. The nurses didnt speak much English but I was okay with that I knew the magic word for pain meds -dolor.

Post op day 2- still wide awake and had the first of 2 dye tests. It basically validated that no blue dye (in juice) didn't leak out my drainage bag. No leak so far. What a relief but now i actually start drinking..bring on the Clear liquids. Wow I really began to understand what others talked about when they said it was difficult.. I was in between queasy, not quite nausea and felt stuffed after sipping a little bit. I quickly learned to adjust my sips but I think things got better after I took some pain meds. Honestly folks. Don't refuse stuff. My stomach felt like I was pouring Water on an open wound until I dealt with that. Tomorrow is the barium test so im crossing my fingers. Now if I can just sleep....

Until later

How are you doing now Jonesy8844? Do they take the drain and colostomy bag off by the 4th day when your leaving the Hospital?

Are you able to get all your Water in now? Was thinking after 3 days in the Hospital and I get home I would want to try drinking sugar free Aloe Vera juice.......for helping healing?

Good Luck Jonesy8844..........many have said each day following surgery gets better

Thanks. The pain at the incision site is a lot better. Now if I can only manage the acid. I swear that the pantazole only lasts for about 16 hours then I'm back to where I started. I'll have to call. Anyway, do you ever end up feeling full at the end of the day even though you havent had anything for an hour or two? Strangely this is what I'm dealing with so I'm sleeping upright for now. Otherwise I'm down to 215 from 230. Not bad at all

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
