Anyone In The Food And Beverage Industry?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if any of you guys or gals are in the food industry? I am a chef in a Las Vegas and is scheduled to get sleeved on the 22nd. I was wondering if you have any tips on how you get through your busy work day staying hydrated and without driving yourself crazy with all the food around. My biggest concern is the Water intake. I know I am supose to sip sip sip but for the past 15 plus years I have been programed to down a bottle of water in a minute. I am really worried when I get real busy that I won't drink enough due to the small amount of fluids I will be able to take in and the time that I have to get them in. Any advice will be greatful.

Find the smallest water bottle possible and kept it in your pocket. Every time you can, take a sip.

How much down time will you have?

And there are many food industry people here so i'm sure they'll help. Good luck!

I'm a cook at a nursing home. I'm on my second day of the pre op diet. It has been easier then I thought it would be because I am so busy that I don't have time to think about eating. I keep some flavored water with me that I really enjoy and just keep sipping it every chance I get. I'm also diabetic so I have to force myself to stop and have a snack so that my sugar doesn't drop to low. I have three weeks off work because I have to be able to lift 50 lbs before I can return to work. Hang in there, it will be a little easier then you think. We can do this!!!

You can get Crystal Light in lots of flavors. Orange is my favorite.

You can also try MIO, they're good and also zero calories. You'll start with sipping in the beginning, then you'll be able to take a bit more than just a sip. How soon after surgery do you plan on returning to work?

I work at the MGM (Grand Garden Arena) and keep bottled Water with crystal light in a couple places and take a swig every chance I get. There are times when i don't get as much but I have learned to make myself a priority and say "I have to get a drink" walk over, take a sip, and get back to it. I still know those days I'm shorting myself, but I can't think of any other ideas. Can you put a small bottle in your jacket? How about a camel pack? :)

I'm the same way. I zone out during work and when I look up its 4 hrs later. I'm having surgery soon and had planned on having a timer on my phone beep me every couple of minutes to remind me to drink until it becomes a habit.

I can fit one of the "casnio" size bottles of water in my pocket if I had to. A camel pack is not a bad idea.....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
