cmaloney 151 Posted October 6, 2012 I swear this is my last post! Just curious if anyone has had any Italian food & how long after surgery it took?
SleeveDreamer 383 Posted October 6, 2012 If you are referring to Pasta, I wasn't allowed bread or pasta for at least 12 weeks I think, maybe longer I don't remember, because it swells in your tummy and it takes at least 12 weeks for your staple line to heal. I don't even want it anymore because it fills me up to fast and too many carbs. You can't really focus on eating your Protein first if you have pasta, because you are getting so much starch at the same time. I am almost 10 months and have only made spaghetti once, and ate 4 oz. of meatballs first and then no room for the spaghetti!
Fiddleman 4,376 Posted October 6, 2012 I ate Italian food during 2nd week post op if Olive Garden counts. Granted I had vegetable Soup broth during liquids. Once I got to solid food (5 weeks), I was eating their chicken and sausage dishes. Only a few bites, mind you. My sleeve is a ninja warrior during eating solids for the most part. I only had trouble once when eating some fatty ham a week ago, but I learned my lesson. During this time, I have not eaten any noodles and probably will continue to abstain from noodles until reaching goal. Good luck!
cmaloney 151 Posted October 6, 2012 Thanks! Just curious.. I do know we have to wait awhile & I'm not craving it or anything. Reason I asked is I was watching a YouTube video & the woman was 2 weeks post- op & went to a wedding & had meatballs & Pasta. Thought that was way too soon. SleeveDreamer 383 Posted October 6, 2012 Your taste buds do change also. You may not want or crave what you did before! Good luck!
Fiddleman 4,376 Posted October 6, 2012 Eating meatballs and Pasta 2 weeks post-op sounds impossible. I was still trying to get my Protein Shakes down at that point. Of course, there are differences of opinion as you will read on this forum.
cmaloney 151 Posted October 6, 2012 I hear ya! That's what I thought & I'm also trying to get in what I'm supposed to at almost 3 weeks out. I don't know jf I envy those people who can eat just a few weeks out..
SleeveDreamer 383 Posted October 6, 2012 My doctor told me the reason I have had steady weight loss and no complications or nausea or anything is because I did and ate exactly what I was supposed to. he said so many people try to rush things and try to eat things they shouldn't too soon. and then they are sick so much and complain about it. If you do what your doctor says, you will be fine. Your time for real food will come before you know it and when it does, you will already be so much slimmer! 1 xavtay2 reacted to this
suegirl 109 Posted October 6, 2012 At three weeks I had Shrimp Scampi with Ziti... I ate four pieces of Pasta and two pieces of shrimp.. that's it! It was awesome though... tonight we went there again and I had the steak and onion out of a sub... Not so good... the onion doesn't like me.. Of course we are regulars at this wonderful Italian place and they thought there must be something wrong with the food since I didn't finish LOL.. I had to explain and now I bring home LOTS of leftovers...
O.T.R. sleever 3,386 Posted October 6, 2012 I eat modified Italian a lot. chicken & Broccoli Alfredo (no Pasta & not drowning in Alfredo) Marinera meat sauce chicken Marsala with squash & zucchini instead of Pasta. There are ways of making almost anything healthier 1 Scaredy Cat reacted to this
COsleeveDude 273 Posted October 6, 2012 I've had regular pizza and Pasta a few times, starting around week 6. Just eat what you can handle and limit your intake. And don't eat it too often. There are always ways to make Italian healthier: leaner meats, more vegetables, low-carb//vegetable Pasta, whole-wheat crust, half/low-fat cheese, etc. Good luck.
