French Onion Soup

Recommended Posts

I am on Clear Liquids until Monday when I start my full liquids. Do you think it would be okay if I had Outback's French onion Soup without the bread and cheese and avoided the onions and only ate the broth? I'm dying for a different taste, but I don't want to screw up either.

I had French Onion soup strained during my clear liquids. I do have to say that after I took my prescribed Milk of Mag on the day before surgery, it wasn't a good experience, if you know what I mean. ;-)

Should be fine if you strain it.

Certainly strained out should be no problem, and over time as you progress you can have more of it included. My doc's plan didn't have discrete clear and full liquids then mush then soft Proteins but combined them all together in one step allowing progress as tolerated, so we made some homemade french onion Soup and progressively added the more solid components. You should be able to do much the same thing as you keep to your doc's specified progression.

I would send hubby to the chinese place to buy wonton Soup and just eat the broth. I understand wanting a change!

I ate Panera French Onion Soup the night before we flew to MX for my surgery. It was so yummy ;) I drank lots of egg drop soup and wonton soup broth during my all clear phase too. You need different tastes to keep you sane during the clear diet!

I had it at red robin the other day. I just had them bring me a bowl as they normally serve it and didn't eat the cheese or bread. It was delicious :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
