CONGRATS!!! and you know, if you eat healthy while pregnant, you may still lose weight and have a healthy baby. While pg, I ate healthier and was more active than I had been in years. My dd weighed in at 8lbs 13 oz and at my 6 week check I was 40lbs lighter than when I walked in for my first visit :)

HOLY COW!!! I thought I would not find anyone else who got pregnant 2 weeks after band surgery. Wow there is someone else...I feel better! I was actually petrified because I finally had gotten the nerve to have surgery, lost about 8 lbs prior and then another 12 in the 10 days afterword and what do you know...my hormones kicked in and I ovulated. Probably the first time in a year. We had had some infertility issues...my weight and PCOS which was the impetus to get the surgery so that we could have more babies. Apparently God gave me the reward as soon as he could. So far I am 11.5 weeks and have maintained my 25 lbs since surgery but I am now wondering if I will be able to keep my weight down and not gain 50 like I did with my first daughter 4 years ago. I am wondering if there would be any way to get a small fill to keep myself on track...doing it without flouro? I am going to check out the yahoo group listed too. Thanks so much!

Heather

My doctor made me promise to go on BC before getting the band. He said a year to 18 months, but I said I'm only willing for 6 months. Losing weight is a priority, but so is having a baby. Congratulations to you!!

I'm surprised the doctors told you that. Wish mine had! One thing my surgeon really stressed was to wait a minimum of a year before becoming pregnant. In their paperwork you even had to indicate what type of BC you planned to use, and apparently if you hadn't put any down they referred you for a pre-op consultation.

The doctors told you "you won't have no chance of getting pregnant", which is the same thing as saying "you will have a chance" -- guess they were right!

Congratulations! I have my physical in January, and March is my 1 year. I plan to talk to my doctor when she does my physical about how much longer to wait before trying to get pregnant. I'd like to be down a bit more, but I'm also going to be 31 next year. Might have to start making some compromises. :)

Congratulations to you ladies that ourgetting a bundle of joy!!!!! :) I also had to sign a two year contract and also inform what BC i was on. My gyno told me that i had to wait till my next cycle before i was able to get on my BC again now i'm scared. I yet to see my cycle. :faint:.

I asked 3 different specialists if I should get on birth control, and they all said, "no, you won't have no chance of getting pregnant"

They sound like a bunch of quacks!

But congrats to you :)

Congratulations Hon!! My surgeon told me that the Lap Band was originally called the "Fertility Band" and for that reason to get on the birth control before you start losing the weight. Since weight loss not only makes your body healthier it makes your sex life healthier!! Good luck on your first child, this must be such a joy for you!

I just found out 2 nights ago that i was pregnant too! i've had the lap band on since July 10th~ lost only 26 pds and boy we had a big surprise. not that im not greatful! i have two children now and really want more, just wanted to loose more weight before trying. i do not use birth control (it really has bad/negative effects on me) but i do use the "calendar" and count my days and know my ovulation period. what is really weird is that my husband and i didn't have sex a lot last month and really not on my ovulation days. (i am very regular and always on schedule) so getting pregnant really feels like God's way of telling me it was time. the night we found out i went out and checked the mail, we got a special letter from our insurance talking about special baby programs they were offering us. hmmmm.... is that a sign or what.

well congrats to you both and i'd love to continue to hear about your progress! do either of you have fills? if so how many? im suppose to go to the dr next week and get another fill. should i get it?? i have fair restriction, but not nearly as much as id like.

Congratulations! There's nothing in the world like a baby! And you can be careful what you eat while pregnant and then get really serious after the baby's born. You'll have that wonderful gift and still be able to lose weight.

I was over 300lbs when I got pregnant with my daughter. I was not banded at the time so I can't tell you what a "banded pregnancy" would be like.

I can tell you just because you are overweight does not automatically mean a bad pregnancy.

I found http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/ to be a very helpful website.

Best of luck to you!

I was supposed to have my operation in Jan 05 but 1 week before I was due to go in...I discovered I was pregnant...needless to say the op was postponed...funny enough i lost heaps of weight over the following months...guess thats the hormones for you...and as soon as my 2nd child was born (5 weeks later) I went in and had my lapband...it was really cool because the private hospital I went to for my childbirth was the same for my lapband and i was in the maternity ward...so the very same nurses that birthed my child nursed me after lap band surgery...they loved it because my 5 week year old 'roomed in' with me and they don't usually get to see and look after babies later once the mother had gone home...very cool!

:o

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
