pregnant 6 weeks later!!!

Recommended Posts

I got my lap band on August 8th and everything has been great. I had no complications, and I had a fill on Sept. . That went well, and I started having decent restriction, when (somewhat suddenly) I started having "the signs". Well, after a positive, but cheap Walmart test was tossed, my husband and I spent $40 on 4 different tests, with 6 different sticks, all of them were the same. SO, then I went to the clinic out here, and they only did a urine test as well, but same deal. So, now go to see an obgyn on monday. Here's the thing, my husband and I are THRILLED, but surprised. This would be our first, and we wanted to, but I just got my band! I just lost 40 lbs. in the last year! And, you know, I asked 3 different specialists if I should get on birth control, and they all said, "no, you won't have no chance of getting pregnant" and I figured as much since my husband and I have not been using birth control for the last 2 1/2 years. I figured this was the least likeliest time possible. Like I said, I'm estatic, a bit perturbed simply because this means I'll have to unfill for the time being, but to have a baby is way more exciting for us right now, plus that's the beauty of the band, it's ajustable. I guess my confusion is how come sao suddenly? And how come the doctors rule it out so easily? (p.s. I know I'm goona get yelled at by my surgeon, I'm dreading calling her on Monday, I sure wish I had tape recorded them all saying "no, you won't get pregnant" ! Even her nurse did! Anyone else get pregnant so fast??? The doc says I could be anywhere from 2 weeks to four, that would mean we concieved 2 weeks after the band!!!!

Hi - weight loss can do that for a person. I got pregnant with my daughter after losing about 40 pounds on atkins...my ob told me that the reason I conceived was specifically that the weight loss helped to normalise things...

Congratulations!! And - once you've had the baby, you still have the band! no postpartum weight issues for you!!

Congratulations! And, like the others have said, the good thing is once you have the baby, the band will still be there waiting for you.

Congrats,

I'm so proud for you. You get two gifts in one. A beautiful, joyous baby and then you know how hard it always is to get it off, your one step up and know exactly what to do so you'll be back to prebaby weight in no time and then on to some serious losing.

Good luck,

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Losing just 10% of your body weight normalises your hormones, and for many seems to send your fertility into overdrive. Hence you "fell" so quickly.

Please make sure that your surgeon ob/gyn actively manage any nausea throughout your pregnancy and delivery, especially over the next few months while your band is healing and your morning sickness is peaking. My surgeon said just three months post band is enough for surgery healing, so you are nearly there already.

Enjoy this very special time!

Congratulations on your happy surprise!

I can't believe anyone told you you had "no chance" of getting pregnant after banding! Why on earth would they say that? The surgeons I'm familiar with say exactly the opposite: they don't want people getting pregnant for at least a year after surgery, and they expect everyone to be on durable, reliable birth control during this time.

Congratulations!! :preggers: :baby:

My surgeon's nurse said that there wasn't a time frame to get pregnant, that they don't care when it happens becuase the band is adjustable.

I was banded in July, and we're thinking about trying to fix my infertility problems in January.

thanks everyone for all the great replies. It's so nice to get support when I was scared I'd get yelled at a lot. Also, I finally got the nerve to talk with my surgeon, and she also suprised me by being very happy and hopeful for me. that the band might be very helpful in keeping my weight gain in the 15 to 20 pound range (i'm only suppose to gain this much because of my current weight). And also that if I need to, I can get an unfill. this whole situation makes me very grateful to have the band, the adjustable band, more than ever.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
