I'm 2 1/2 months out and was wondering around that time how many ounces (or whatever form of measurement you use to measure food lol) were you eating? I'm eating no more than 2 ounces for anything solid, and if it's Soup or soft (yogurt, hummus, etc) 4 ounces. I just wanted to see how I compared to other people! I'd love to hear from everyone! Thanks!

So when do you notice a real change in capacity, in terms of how much food you can get into your stomach? And can I ask how far out are you currently, and what's your normal serving size?

Hmm, I probably eating more then you.

I notice that I can eat 4 oz of liquefied food ( like soup/yogurt/etc) but solid food I usually can eat only 2 oz of Protein ( like fish/meat/cheese) but in addition I can eat another 3 oz of tomatoes. or 2 oz of veggies like squash/zucchini.

and Once I was so hungry that I ate 9 oz of tomatoes with fresh mozzarella. I was sure that I will return everything right away but it went down smoothly and I didn't feel any discomfort. but after that I never had another 9 oz again.

I'm about 4.5 months out now. I can do about 4oz of dense Protein, or about 8oz os softer foods. It was about 3-3.5monts when it seemed to take an overnight jump.

9 months out and I can have 4oz of soft protien, 2-4 otherwise...

...now, here is the tricky thing...I can have more, but I don't need it to feel full, and i think more is directly related to me feeling bad later, next day even.

I would keep you portions as modest as you can to satiate your hunger. measure before you eat! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
