Whats A Cheat To You?

Recommended Posts

I have been noticing alot of board members talking about cheating. So I came up with an Idea of why dont we all list what we think a cheat is.

I would love to hear the many differences. Maybe by the end of this thread we all can have a general overview of what a cheat really is.

The thing for me is that I dont have a cheat list per say. All I have is a banned list. Lets hear everyones version.

I think anything that has the potential to hurt your sleeve... for example eating solids too soon (or sooner than your doctor says).

Other than that I think it is very personal and might take time to figure out even for yourself.

I also think you know deep down if your cheating, your cheating on yourself. Usually no one else's business unless you choose public accountability...

I look forward to reading everyone else's thoughts :)

I think of cheating in the traditional since, foods that are bad mostly sweets for me. I had a real sugar addition before and I do not even want to TRY sweets now for fear it will start again!

I am super hard on myself, so anything beyond what I am supposed to eat is a cheat for me. This means even licking a tiny bit of frosting off my finger while baking for my family is off limits. It really is ridiculous, i know, but i am an all or nothing kinda girl. It works for me.

A glass of wine, a bite of my kids burger, a piece of bacon.

i feel like i cheated myself for years by filling myself with poor food choices. now my "cheats" are comical. the other day i had some strawberries. they are not on my food list yet but they were so delicious. i am just living on the edge. :)

I'm different than most. I don't consider bad foods as cheats as long as they fit into my daily diet. If I have a small slice of pizza, it's not cheating if Breakfast was 2 egg whites and lunch was a salad with grilled chicken. It still allows me to be well under calories for the day and didn't make the carbs out of control. To me that's not cheating. It's only cheating if I overendulge.

A piece of pie would be cheating because it's way over my carb limit for the day. Fried chicken is cheating because its way over my fat allowance for the day, but I wouldn't consider a bite cheating because I can fit that into my diet plan.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
