Drinking And Eating

Recommended Posts

I'm about two weeks post op and sometimes I forget the 30 minute rule for drinking. Am I ruining my tummy? I think I forget because I'm so concerned with getting in enough liquids and enough Protein. On Sunday I was very nauseated and I didn't eat and barely drank and the same thing with Monday and most of Tuesday. I was so weak and worn out. But I got something to take care of my upset stomach/heartburn and now I feel better that way, but I'm still very week. I took a shower this morning and then had to lay down because it wore me out.

I'm sure it's because of those few days where I didn't have anything and I feel like I'm trying to compensate now. I've been averagaing about 40 oz of liquid a day and today I got in about 40 grams of Protein. I know I need more fluids, but sometimes I feel like I cannot possible put anymore in my body.

Wow, sorry. This turned into a long rant that had nothing to do with my previous question. On the occasions I forget the drinking rule and have a few sips with my food am I sabotaging myself?

A few sips aren't going to hurt. I wouldn't make it a habit. I broke the habit by leaving my drink in the fridge until it was time. If we are out somewhere I just don't order a drink. I am 9 months out and sometimes I think it's been long enough and I take a drink and I feel like I'm going to suffocate. I guess I am one of the people who are physically unable to drink and eat together.

Also only being 2 weeks out I would mostly concentrate on Water. Most important. Dehydration is no joke! The Protein will increase a little at a time.

you are doing amazing! each day will get easier. just make sure you are getting your liquids in. you do not want to get dehydrated. hang in there!

A good tip i got from dietician is to have one glass of Water (approx 200ml) 10-15 minutes before each 'meal' and don't stress too much if you don'trememer to drink again half an hour after eating as you won't be thirsty. It does help. I am about 7 weeks post op and eating 6 small (1/2 cup) meals per day. Takes some getting used to that's for sure, but definitely worth it as I have already lost 18kg (just over 40 pounds)

The misconception is that drinking while/directly after eating will stretch your stomach. The reason it's actually recommended is because if you drink soon after eating you are pushing the food out of your stomach faster, meaning you will feel full for shorter period of time. Surgeon said that when you're early out, if you slip up no biggie, it's when you're two years out and realize you can eat a lot more than you should because you're drinking with your meals you should follow the rule. I need Water during my meals, or I'd only be able to eat a bite per meal! You are fine, if you do remember, great, if not nothing will happen! :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
