Psychologist Not Covered

Recommended Posts

I was planning on having my Psychologist, Surgeon, and Dietician visit all on the same day. I got a call from the Psychologist's office today telling me that my insurance wouldn't cover my visit. Not so much that Cigna wouldn't cover it, but that Magellan which is over psychological treatment wouldn't approve it. Has anyone else experienced this problem that has Cigna and maybe Magellan for psych services?

I have Oxford Health Plan and they didn't approve the pysch either. I had to pay for that out of my pocket which was $250.

They didn't cover the psych at my surgeon's office, but they had contracted psychs under their plan. The psych at the surgeon's office was 250 bucks, so I went to one under their plan for only 25. It wasn't convenient, but neither is spending 225 bucks if you don't have to.

My insurance the first time it was submitted was denied. I called and spoke to a person at the insurance and they informed me if it was required for the surgery it was part of the process. BUT they could not give me the correct code to use. I had to do research and resubmit it on my own.

My psych visit was just a co pay... But for the papers or test as they put it I had to pay out of pocket for it was about 100 dollars

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
