Newly Banded

Recommended Posts

I was just banded on Thursday, and I am in a good deal of pain. I wanted to know when does the pain end. My body seems to be sore, I wonder is this because I am not moving around enough? I noticed that I am sore around the area of my port. I will admit that the medication is GREAT:D

Any advice

Congratulations! Sorry about the pain. Day 2-5 for me were all about sore tummy muscles, like having done too many crunches. Then it faded away.

Other soreness might well be related to laying down for a long time or it could be gas. Get out of bed and onto your feet and walk up and down the hall or around the room, several times a day. Use a heating pad if an area feels really sore, but keep yourself moving. It will make you feel a little stronger each day.

Good luck,

Jo Ann

I walked and walked and walked. It took the soreness and pain away completely. I didn't even need anything for the pain. Try walking alot and congrats and welcome to bandland. YIPEE

My 5th day after surgery was the worst. All pain except my port area completly faded by day 10. I couldn't wear an underwire bra for about 12 days instead, I wore those fitted camisoles.

I am still tender at my port if I press and poke on it. However, now at one month post op it is harder to locate my port than previously. During the first 3 weeks I tought the port pain was never going to go away, however it eventually did, without notice.

Faybie thank you for sharing about your port pain. I was banded 9/13 and my port still hurts when I have been up a long time or walked a lot or over done. It feels like my bra is just resting on it. Now I have hope that eventually it will go away. Katt

Thanks for the advice. Today I am doing really good. I was up early and cooked Breakfast for my family, and now I am relxaing having a Protein Shake. I know that i will have to deal with the pain at the port area but everything else, (except for the gas pain) has subsided.

Any suggetsions for gas relief? I have been taking Gas X, i guess its working slowly.

Congratulations Sunnshyne!!

I was in pain for about 8 days, and I still have some soreness in my port incision especially. My port incision was really painful. I had terrible bruising too.

Like others have said, walking helps a lot. For me, ice packs were a lifesaver too. For gas, I can't say that Gas X helped or not (I took it but still had gas pains, but who knows maybe it would have been worse had I not taken it). Laying on my left side helped.

Be patient with yourself; I know I was getting impatient b/c I felt it was taking me a long time to heal. Best of luck to you and welcome to bandland!

I was newly banded on 9/11/06. The first week was the worst, by the second week the only area that hurt was the incision where my port is located, and I still had gas issues. This week I still have a hard time bending over on the side of the port or sitting up in bed using my stomach muscles.

I only used the pain medicine for the first 2 days. It seems that the medication only prolongs the healing. Definately get up and walk as much as possible throughout the day.

Good luck and I wish you much success!!!!

I am still "pre-banded", but hearing the advice to WALK...WALK...WALK scares me. If I could walk, I might not need the blamed surgery! Both my feet and my back get very angry at me if I even stand too long, let alone walk very much. Can anyone relate?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
