HeyMo35 21 Posted October 4, 2012 Okay so doing my research i found doctors will remove 60-85% of your stomach...so I assume if the idea of taking 85% does not sit well with me (which it doesn't lol) I could opt for... say 70%??? I have a seminar next week and appt the following but this has been on my mind so i thought i would ask.. Thanks
prettysleeved1 173 Posted October 4, 2012 Well, they use something called a bougie. Ask your surgeon which size bougie they use. My surgeon was willing to go bigger but not smaller than her normal preference. I just chose based on the empirical information. The thing is that there is very little variation between sizes. 1 HeyMo35 reacted to this
TamaraS 235 Posted October 4, 2012 Im not sure how that works. Seems like you would be able to. My Dr. said before hand he would remove 85 percent but im not sure that actually happened. I started soft foods today and I can fit way too much in the sleeve comfortably. That really scares me. Really think about it. Might not be as effective if its bigger? 1 ashleyxx reacted to this
Chicago1962 125 Posted October 4, 2012 I didn't know there was a choice. I just went with my doctor's wisdom. I think he removed 75% of my tummy. Thank God! I am so, so happy that my body is on my side now! 1 HeyMo35 reacted to this
TheNewSusie 471 Posted October 4, 2012 Mine removed 85% of mine and used a 32 French. I know and feel that I have a tight sleeve and good restriction. I'm very happy with my decision. Mind u, after 9-12 months, I should be able to eat 1000-1200 calories a day and maintain. Never could have those options without my sleeve 2 MsShaunaMarie and lessofmeismore reacted to this
Rootman 1,101 Posted October 4, 2012 In actuality I don't think that there is a whole lot of difference and the amount removed has more to do with the shape of the stomach rather than the size of the bougie. Also, if you get TOO big a sleeve then the old nemesis hunger will play a larger part in your diet than it would with a smaller one. You could always eat more often with a smaller sleeve but having to diet severely and put up with hunger may sabotage your weight loss. I also would not worry about eating. After a year, year and a half you can eat just about anything you want and it is quite easy for most to simply NOT eat as much and maintain the weight level. The LAST thing you want to do is lose a bunch and then gain a lot back, that would be discouraging and detrimental to your health. I'd go with what the doc recommends. 3 Threetimesacharm, ProudGrammy and TamaraS reacted to this

Thanks..its kinda weird but I almost am never hungry.. i have to go hours without food before I feel hunger. The more i research and think about this the more i can see what my issues are.. This is good.
