takroom 192 Posted October 3, 2012 I have had gastroperesis for over 10 years. I also had fibromyalgia, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high sugars & liver enzyme levels, gerd, etc... At one point I was taking 42 pills a day. I sought a second opinion, only to be told that my Dr that I was previously seeing was doing all that could be done for me. So began my search for alternate treatments. I went to a holistic dr, looked into acupuncture, went to massage & physical therapy, so on & so on. After no success, I decided to look into other options. I found a surgical approach could possibly be the answer. I looked into a pacemaker implant, lapband & decided I didn't really want a foreign object in my body long term. That's when I discovered the Vertical Sleeve Gasterectomy. I figured, why not...worse case scenario was it wouldnt work & i would be back at square 1. Unfortunately, my insurance would not cover it. I made the decision to go to MX & was sleeved on 09/04/12. It was much less expensive than having it done in the states. I have no regrets, it's the best decision I've made. The Dr's & the staff were excellent. I am proud to announce that I am off all meds & my blood pressure has resumed to a normal level. I've had a couple of minor issues but in my opinion it has been very successful!! I know it's only been 4 weeks & I have a long road to recovery but I'm looking forward to a happier, healthier life. I hope my story helps some of you out there who are also suffering with gastroperesis.
jusstice 103 Posted October 3, 2012 How is the fibromyalgia? Have you had any serious bouts of pain/faitgue since surgery? Any less? I have it, and it is the one thing which causes concern for the surgeon. I do not take any meds for it though.
takroom 192 Posted October 3, 2012 Believe it or not, I have only had a mild flare up since surgery & my Dr had me take a Tylenol.
