Recommended Posts

I am a month pre-op and still weighing the pros and cons. I just discovered this site and would appreciate your thoughts and recommendations.

Welcome Linn, I'm glad you found us. There's a ton of information on this site so read away and maybe it will help you sort through those pros and cons. That's what helped me with my decision. Good luck with it and keep us posted on what you decide.

Welcome Linn, That's what helped me with my decision.

Welcome, I have been using this site for more than two months daily and I still find new things everyday. There is so much information here. Look for your scheduled surgery month of bandits. It is nice to talk to people who are going through exactly what you are as well as learn from "veterans".

Also, search is very helpful. Go up to the blue navigation bar and in the middle you see "search", click on it and in the drop down box type anything you need to research. Your dr.'s name, ha ha I had to look up "trolling" anything you see and don't know what they mean.

Oh and for inspiration, I look at before and after pictures almost daily. When I didn't have any significant results myself, I would use others results to see what it would be like eventually. Great inspiration thread while you are just getting started.

Welcome and good luck!

I was banded two days ago and the operation was smooth. This was my first time in a hospital so, I was alittle nervous. If you look at your alternatives.... lap band is the best way to go. Bypass is far more dangerous.

The LapBand is "the best way to go" FOR SOME PEOPLE and a terrible choice for others.

Spend a lot of time searching for YOUR best choice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
