Meal Planning For Single Parents With Young Children - Need Suggestions!

Recommended Posts

This is a great thread!!! I will be done with my last but appointment at the end of this month and hope to be sleeved soon after and have been thinking about this for a while.....got some great ideas thanks!!! Is there any websites anyone can recommend for weekly cooking menu ect I figure I can star freezing little meals for myself and get the kids in on the healthy eating too because undortunatley my 12yearold has mommys bad eating habits

I love the website skinnytaste.com to get recipes from. She is a lady who does weight watchers. All is the recipes have a break down of calories, carbs, and protien. I made a lot of her recipes pre-op and everyone liked them. I am 3 weeks post-op and not on real food yet but I love her food. Good luck

Update... I went to Super Target over the weekend and stocked up on meats for my kiddo's meals while I'm on liquid diet (starts next week, wow!). OH, have any of you tried using the ziploc "perfect portion" bags?! They are FAB for buying bulk meat items and them portioning it out to keep in freezer.

I've also ordered a toaster/convection oven from Walmart - woohoo!

I'm going to enlist my daughter's help in planning her dinner menus for the next several weeks! I'll post back here when we come up with a plan :)

Single mom here too, my daughter is 4 and thank god she is not very picky because I worked my hardest to NOT have her take over my eating habits (she didn't even have a french fry until she was almost 4!!!! This seemed to have worked since she doesn't really like sweets and loves fruits and veggies :-) I didn't want her to have the struggles I have had!)

CHILI! Maybe for further down the road when you can eat it too but it was really the only thing I could get down when I started really eating food. Made it with Turkey and LOTS of Beans (protein) I lived on it for at least a week and my daughter loved it too! Also made a white bean chicken chili recently and we both loved that too!

This looked good. Can make them up ahead of time. Maybe omit bread crumbs because of carbs... or change the kind of cheese for little kids

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
