Hi All,

I'm wondering about sugar cravings after surgery. Have any of you lost a desire for sweets since being sleeved? My surgery is October 22, and I really want to lose the craving for sweets. Last week I was distracted by it thoughts of cheesecake and ice cream! Of course I didn't have them ( I finally went for a no sugar added frozen yogurt

Yesterday). I just hope that I can lose the cravings and not have to fight it anymore. Thanks for your input!

I noticed I have more now then I did before surgery, I do use Splenda in my coffee everyday though, I have heard sweetners cause you to crave more, so it might be a reason I do.

I'm 6 months out, and still crave some sweets....Its a battle. But, I have found out that white carbs are addictive....the more you eat them, the more you crave. So, I try really hard to stay away from them. When I want something sweet, I usually have a Protein Shake or bar. Sure, it doesn't taste as good as a Peanut Butter twix, but I just try to keep reminding myself that stuff is like poison. This surgery isn't magic, but it sure does make things a lot easier!

High Protein foods or shakes helps with craving it helped me with mine because it keeps you full and not really wanting anything else.

And it helps with the snacking in between meals also and with that being said my weight loss progress has be great by doing it that way.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
