How Long Are You On Protein Shakes?

Recommended Posts

I'm preparing for surgey on the 15th of November. I've ordered some samples of Unjury and Syntrax Nectar. I was wondering how long after surgery are you on these Protein shake/ supplements? I know the Vitamins are forever...I'm going to start looking for those now but the protein is what I'm concerned about. I know they are pricey so I want to prepare myself.

I would say a few months mabe more. Depending on how long it takes you to eat enough to get the Protein in yourself with food.< /p>

In my opinion it can be a long time. I know some have posted that once losing their weight still use shakes: they are convenient, good for you and an easy way to get in lots of Protein and Vitamins. Find one you like in different flavours and enjoy!

Luckily My doc only makes you do one week on the shakes.. One week pre-op and that's it!! THat was hard enough! lol.. Then Clear Liquids in hospitals. pureed from day 2 to 2 weeks and starting 2 weeks mostly normal diet!! Yesterday was first real meal. YUM!!

I'm almost 7 months out, and a few days a week I'll have a Protein Shake for Breakfast. If you don't like the taste of them, then by all means stop when you're able to get your Protein allotment in without using them. I found one I absolutely adore, so I make a breakfast "milkshake"out of it, banana, milk, Peanut Butter and ice.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
