Cardiologist Requested A Stress Test... Uuuggghhh! Anyone Been Slowed Down By Extra Appointments At The Last Minute?!

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I went to my Cardiologist appt. I thought this is it, great! My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 9th. The doc took a look at my med history and my family's med history and scheduled me for a stress test. I know he is taking precautions but I feel frustrated. I want to get this over and done with already. I have been prepping since the beginning of May. I did more than what was asked of me and yet I feel like I am in limbo and that this extra appt will only delay things for me. I just want to fast forward time already. I want to scream!!!

I've been jumping through hoops for 6 month now too. Unfortunately as someone with heart disease I also know that a stress test is the only way for them to rule out a heart irregularity. It's a pass/fail test. Just get on that treadmill and pass it and they'll leave you alone. 7 years ago I failed mine and went through a series of other tests that ultimately led to a surgery that saved my life. Good luck.

I had to do a stress test also but because of knee problems was unable to do the treadmill and my cardiologist had to jump through hoops to get the insurance company to let them do what they call a nuclear stress test. Instead of running on a treadmill, they gave me an injection of something that made my heart think it was exercising. My friend told me he had that test a few years ago and though he was going to die but for my it was easy and painless - but the technician that did the test said that they had improved the test since my friend had it and that was probably why I didn't have any problems with the test.

I do stress testing for a living...you are going to rock it. Its not even about getting to 100% of your target HR. They want to see that EKG, and of course, if you have any pain, pressure, or tightness in the chest area. Standard testing for anyone having surgery with family history or co-morbidities. I think everyone should have them pre-op...certainly would save lives!! Good luck...

Thank you all for responding. I had an EKG with my PATs and it was fine. My family history is jacked up and I do have medical issues that go hand in hand with heart problems. I know it's better safe than sorry. I am just too anxious and want to get on with my new life. I don't want to delay it any longer. Thanks again ladies. I will keep you posted and yes, I will rock it! LOL!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
