Frustrated And Needing Motivation!

Recommended Posts

I was sleved 8/21/12 and I am down 24lbs. I am at this horrible stand still and have been for 2 weeks now. I'm not gaining but not losing either. I need to start some type of regular exercise routine but need a serious kick in the pants. I have a 2 yr old and I cant drive due to my epilepsy. As much as an hour at the gym sounds fabulous it just isnt feasable for me so frustrated I have become and need some type of help getting out of this slump. PLEASE HELP ANY ADVICE IS WELCOME!

I was sleeved on 8/29 and 1 wk later I stalled for 2 wks. I hear its normal. Your body is readjusting. Did u take measurements that helped me realise listen to your body not the scale. I am 1 month out and 1 have lost a total of 12& 3/4 inches .

Can u take your 2 yr old old in het stroller and start walking. Are you keeping a list of your food, Protein, carbs and Fluid intake. That helps. I use an app on my phone called myfitnesspal..

I told myself everyday when I was stalled for those 2 weeks THIS TO SHALL PASS.. good luck and keep me posted.

Hey, don't get frustrated. We have all been at this point, for me more than once. LOL. You will start back to losing sometimes your body is fighting the change trying to go into "survival" mode, but after a few weeks of adjusting to the amount of food it is receiving the weight begins to start again. I was sleeved Aug 2010, started at 230 today I am at 160 and my goal is 155, so almost there. Keep the faith, it will get better.

What the previous posters said.

I used to go to the gym. I also made my inability to get there as an excuse to quit exercising. You may be different, that was me.

Now all of my exercise is home based. I use kettle bells, a bodyblade, push-up handles, but the rest is just calisthenics. I only go out to exercise when I walk or bike in the neighborhood. I am getting in the best shape of my life. No more excuses.

Lots of great DVDs you can get on the cheap that can help. I've been doing Yoga for years and swear by it but if you want a little more cardio you can try Pilates as well. Start small with some beginner programs and then work your way up. The key is to do a program that isn't so hard that you will give up on it. Choose something that you can do 5 days a week and make it part of your routine to keep doing it.

My husband has lost 37 lbs using just the Wii Fit (not sleeved). It is very private and the fun exercises are motivating. If it works for you work it :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
