Exercising Before Surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm still waiting for my surgery date. Medicare has yet to pre-authorize my surgery. I'm in NY. Anyway I've slacked off and when I last visited my surgeon I had regained the few pounds I managed to lose. I want to start getting back on track. I want to start using Fitness Pal and Fitbit again. It cam take at least a couple of months more before I actually get a surgery date but I am wondering if you all think it would be a good idea to start my gym membership now so I can Start with cardio and hopefully toning. I have flab in my belly and I am afraid of the additional flab after surgery so I want to do something to it. I'm 38. I probably won't be able to afford Excess skin removal surgery and not sure if my insurance would cover it anyway. So...what do you guys think? Start exercising? Yes or no? How long would I have to stop post surgery?

I say yes. I was self pay and I only did pre op diet and was sleeved within a month. and it was a little harder to get into the swing of exercising. I am one month out and I am now walking and jogging hoping I get cleared for lifting weights. I have an spot on the 11th.

Definitely get started, easier to keep going after getting into a routine of doing it.

Most definitely helps your body recover easier after surgery.

I exercise about 5 days a week and surgery date is Oct 29th. I wish I had been as diligent about exercise before surgery when I had band done.

Oh, yes! I couldn't walk because It hurt my back, but my friend came over every night and we rode our bikes thru my neighborhood! I had not ridden since I was young... It was so much fun and low impact on your joints. I was sleeved in the 4th, so I have to wait until Day 5 to ride.... I can't wait !!
