Considering banding in Tijuana

Recommended Posts

I am considering banding with dr. verboonen in Tijuana in November. My husband is VERY concerned about going to Tijuana, but not so much concerned about Cancun or Cabo. I will be in Southern CA anyway and would like to just do it in Tijuana. What do you think? I feel that US hospitals and docs are way too expensive and am not afraid to go to Mexico. Maybe it's just that I want it so bad!!!LOL

I had great results with obesity goodbye, Dr ponce de leon was my surgeon though. I'm actually returning to Tijuana and OGB for my first flouroscopy and fill on Oct 16th. If I lived closer I'd have gone back much sooner. My 64 year old mother will be going with me again and we're going to stay an extra day because she loves the shops on revolution avenue. Good Luck.

You'll many people who are for and other who are against banding outside of the United States. The bottom line is that it's YOUR decision so do your research, weigh the options, and make the best choice for YOU.

Just stay away from Dr. Lopez!!!! I am going to T.J in an hour to have botox and other stuff done. I will not let my bad experience with Lopez keep me from the good stuff.

Anyone that says going to Tiajuana for surgery is unwise.. is unwise themselves!!!

It's a twenty minute procedure that in the States cost self-payers $15,000 to $20,000... $1000 a min is BS..... Dr Ortiz has done ten times more lap bands than any doctor in the states. My dad is a Veterinarian, when I was young I watched him do spays and he was just out of vet school.. it took him forever... now he does three in the same time and better..

Good luck.. my two cents

Tom

Thanks for responding to my post . I'm with you, negative people just piss me off so I just ignore those that have no experience in Mexican surgery to quailfy an answer. How was the flight home? Was it uncomfortable? I will be attending a function (NHRA finals in Pomona ) either before or after the procedure and was wondering if it would be uncomfortable. The suite we will be watching from has a elevator and I have a handicap sitcker from my state that will get me closer to the entrance. But I will be doing a bit of walking so I just was wondering about the walking part hurting me, I have a high tolerance to pain, so it's not like I'm a weenie LOL! If I have the surgery after how well can I eat at Pomona? Also will I feell like site seeing after the surgery or should I do it before? I bow to you who have gone before I.

With the pre-op diet and the post-op clear liquid diet your energy is what keeps you from doing alot. I had no problem with the flight. I walked 2-3 miles the day after the surgery to help eleveate gas ( they fill your stomacj with CO2 or CO or some kinda gas and if you don't walk it is painful. I didn't have to go back to work so I didn't I milked the energy thing too:)

I was banded by Dr Kuri in Tijuana.I have absolutely no regrets and have referred family and friends to him.My sister was banded by him in April.I go back monthly for fills and even then everything goes smoothly. He has done so many bands and is well known, and highly experienced.Just look up "lap band in Mexico"and you'll see his name everywhere.Good luck in making your choice.

Just had to give a gratuitous shout out to Dr. Ortiz. My husband was reluctant too - but the facilities Dr. Ortiz uses are immaculate. The staff is warm and comforting and the surgery is no big deal. Feel free to PM me with any questions!

Just be sure to do your research, find a local aftercare physician BEFORE you are banded, and no matter what, DO NOT USE LOPEZ!

Best wishes on your surgery and on your weight loss journey.

If you don't mind going another 2 hour east Dr. Aceves in Mexicali is WONDERFUL -- he'll actually have someone pick you up in San Diego at the airport. He offers free floroscopy fills for life (you pay the cost of the xray room.)

The key to Mexico is really doing your research on your doctor -- there are bad doctors there, just as there are bad doctors here, and you don't want a bad one in either place.

I recommend Ortiz as well..he is a very competent surgeon and I felt completely comfortable in his care. I would do it again in a heartbeat!!

I love Dr. Sanchez in Monterrey Mexico. He was fabulous. Just don't go to Lopez. I know Sanchez and Ortiz are very welled liked and I'm sure there are others. I'm with you, I had a great experience and I just don't pay any attention to people who don't want you to go to Mexico. Just do your research and find your fil doctor before you go and you will be fine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
