Hello All, I am 3 weeks post op and I still can't seem to keep things down. I have tried things like, mashed potatoes, Jello, yogurt, refried Beans, scrambled egg beaters, cheese and nothing seems to work for me. I can't even handle the Protein Shakes. When I do eat it likes my sleeve is to small to handle the food going down. I can feel the food going slowly down my throat. Then it just sits there, then 5 minutes later, I'm running to the bathroom. I have read people talking about the size of the "bougie" their doctor used. I don't know which one mine used so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. I have a appointment on the 8th and I am the type of person that doesn't like to keep bothering physician's with a bunch of calls and problems. I do drink but just not the required amount that I should be drinking. It's just hard and I feel frustrated that I am going to start having complications. I don't have the strength or energy to do much at home. I do try to continue doing the things I did before surgery but the eating and drinking is just the problem for me. Any suggestion would be helpful and thanks for listening. And I have tried all types of the Protein shakes. I just ordered the Unjury shakes so maybe they will help me more when I get them. Thanks!!

Maybe you can try doing just Clear Liquids for a little while. I am 4 weeks out and still not cleared to eat half the stuff that you listed. I would also let my surgeon know if I were you! Hope you feel better soon!

I don't think I would be waiting for the appointment on the 8th but would be trying to get in sooner. 3 weeks is a long time to go without. Everyone is going to be different, but I would be insane right now if I were you.

Hang in there.

Wow - scary series of posts here - especially sazzygirl - are you doing better now? That sounds horrible.

mgsmith72 - please call your doctor tomorrow - it's not about bothering... it's about ensuring your health.

Mgsmith- you really DO need to call your doctor tomorrow or you may end up in the ER w dehydration. I also want to mention that 3 weeks out i was still on liquids. I dont think i wld have been able to handle those foods either. BUT, just the fact that even liquids aren't comfortable for you means you NEED to call your doctor before things get worse.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
